Box Wing

Looking at the new Pop Sic Magizine. They are showing several full scale planes with a "Box Wing" design. Is there any Box wing design in RC?

Never heard of a "Pop Sic" magazine nor "box Wing". Can you elucidate?

there have been some models made with the box wing concept, but they have been pretty much all scratch built designs by their owners. You tend to see it more with indoor free flight planes more than outdoor planes though.
Some folks were discussing them here a few years ago: http://www.rcpowers.com/forum/showth...-experimentals
Many modellers find building one wing for a RC plane to be a hard task, then with bipes you have two wings and so people tended to shy away from bipes for that reason. But tossing in two joined wings with a box wing adds a extra layer of complexity to the mix, so people tended to not build them.

Sorry It is Popular Science May 2012. The box wing concept extends the wing tips up and around and to the top of the horizontal stabilizer. Making it somthing like an inverted V tail.

I've seen a couple of models like that in model magazines. The wings are unusually high aspect ratio, which tend to be aerodynamically cleaner, but give back some maneuverability as a trade off.....Sailplane versus Aerobatic.

There's more lifting area, and a broader CG range with box wings.

So if it would work in a sailplane. Could you make a sailplane with a 2 meter wing area that would fit assembled in the back of someones hatchback? That might be kind of usefull.
