Question
UMX Warmliner projekt AS6410NBL problem

Hi, i have been placing the gutts of my E-flite Habu with an 180 BL outrunner
EFL-UM180BLB in a scratch built Hotliner.
Unfortunately motor spins wrong way and turing connection cable from esc to motor 180 degrees gives full funktionality av correckt spinning rotation but leads to overheating cutt off on the brick.
As far as i can see i the brick from the HABU the Eflite DSMX 6Ch AS3X Receiver with BL ESC which is identic to the one used in for example the UMX pitts there in a another orientation and with the motor i am using .

I hope i am asking ntohing which has beeen diskussed a thousand times before but i couldn\t get a ansver by searching. Wrote to Horizon hobby but havnt got a ansver yet.

Appriciate help Regards

Can you hook the brick up to a different motor? If you power up the brick without a motor attached what does it do? Have you tried different batteries? Are the batteries fully charged?

What does the brick do when it is in this condition? Doe it do this with or without a prop on the motor? When the fault occurs, are you spinning the motor or does it do this with throttle set to 0?

Really appreciate your reply - getting slightly mad about this problem as modell i otherwise flies extremly well.

Can you hook the brick up to a different motor?

-This i think is done so far as the brick was taken out of at elktrically working but otherwise damaged HABU

If you power up the brick without a motor attached what does it do?
- I have full kontroll over all channels. There is no malfunktion cutoff or whats or ever fail

Have you tried different batteries? Yes i did.
Are the batteries fully charged? I thougt.

Going to check this again !

Whole brick shuts down most likely due to overheating cut off as it is so hot that you hardly kan touch it. After a minutt or so it coms back and binds again to the radio with no current to motor. Waiting lit longer and motor i working. Looks like shut of comes earlier the more throttle you apply. Prop is used in a Gee Bee UMX with same motor (same brick?) and shout work without drawing to much Amp.

Most irritationg is that this problem only occurs if you have turned connection cable esc(or brick) to motor 180 degrees as suggested in order to reverese spinning direktion. Turned right way (Prop spinning wrong direktion) no problem

Sounds like you're getting a bad connection turning the connector 180 degrees.(Not made to do this=resistance?)
Try switching any 2 of the 3 wires in the connector itself. You will see 3 little holes in the connector, push the little pin down and pull out the wire. Before reinstalling the wire in a different spot you might have to pry that little pin back up so the wire stays in the connector.

I was wondering if you could try it with another motor because if it can spin the second motor, in the right direction, without a problem, then the issue is probably with the first motor or the connector on the motor as I R Irv has pointed out.

Isn't the motor used in the edf a much higher kV than used in the prop planes? The bl180s used in the various prop planes have a kV between 2000 & 2500. I think the motor in the Habu has a kV of about 11000!

Never mind I just zoomed in on your picture and see you have the out runner version.

It's possible that the speed control on the Habu board doesn't like a low kV motor. That said I'm running a edf on the original Sbach board with no issue at all. But I have seen controllers that could not be timed for low kV motors.

Thanks a lot for your replies. Taking fokus from the brick to the connection and motor helped a lot. Actually the spinning rotation issue turned out to be a motorproblem. As the brick was doing fine with the original motor i tried annother motor which i took from my pitts and this worked fra better.
I havn´t solved the issue totally as the brick is getting very hot as soon as you power up the brick. But as long as you get this thing in the air the cooling from the wind keeps temperture low enough to keep the brick going.

Finally a couple of flights have been done and i could not be happier. First flight after the fix was very good , needed minor adjustments. Then I found out that I under all this motor changing i mounted prop wrong way. Next fly left me speachless. Very fast very manuverable unlimited vertikal climb.

I posted a short video. Not sure if this shows good enough how good this thing flies.

If you like take a look.
