i made mine slightly differently to the link. Here in oz we use 36Mhz, and i used a coiled wire antenna half the wavelength.
the wavelength of 36Mhz is 300,000,000 (speed of light in metres per second) divided by the frequency 36,000,000. This comes out to 8.33 metres for a full wavelength, or 4.165 metres for half.
To make the antenna, i used a piece of thin plastic tube and 4.165 metres of fine enamelled copper wire, wrapped alongside fishing line. I wound the strand of wire and the fishing line side by side to separate the turns of copper. The finished antenna was about 2 inches long and revived my friend's dead gws 4 channel rx.
if people want more details i'll take some photos and draw some diagrams
