Help!
Foam tyres for carpet... 1/5 scale - anyone has info?

Hi,
I want to practice with my bike indoors on carpet. I have heard of someone making foam tyres for our racing bikes but I don't know who... Does anyone have info about these. I will have them on my RG Evo3.

Ask here: http://www.gp-speedtires.de/ . He will do any Tire you want. Actually he did the tires for many driver of the Friedrchshafen indoor race.

I forgot to mention. GP delivers only the donuts. Glueing and grinding you have to manage yourself.

So, finally I got my hands on some donuts...
I used the lathe to cut down some old roadies wheels...

Tyres are then glued with CA-glue...
Later I'll put them into the machine for the correct profile...

Then I will be able to make this year's first practice indoors...

Hello Peter, For some reason my computer is blocking that link for gp-speedtires . Do you have the E-mail address that I can contact him directly? Thanks, Dave

ok, I was too late.

Here is a hint, how I get the donats into Profile. I start with either cutting or grinding a chamfer on both sides. If this is done I put the wheel together with a hub so that it can rotate on a axle. Now I grind them into profile on a bench grinder. If you hold the axle of the wheel almost vertical the wheel is rotating relatively slow and the tire gets grinded perfectly round.

Foamies are awesome on both carpet and tarmac (either concrete with texture or asphalt)
Ive made them before on other bikes, Mini Z F-1 and Micro RS4. Really the best grip Ive had on a bike. Just watch the profiles and make them round. If its too parabolic the steering timing will be effected and if you make them round the steering will be more linear and predictable. They will change shape as you use them according to the track.

My tires are ready for the track. Just hope that the track is wide enough... I made the shape in the lathe. Quite a lot of foam to grind away...

Let's hope that the angle of the rear isn't too steep...

Fitted on the bike with weights on the wheels...

Very nice work. Does this mean indoor racing for the Swedish winters? :-)

Today's test was a success :D The tyres worked great. Now I can concentrate on learning how to set up the bike... First thing is to get rid of the front wheel wanting to turn more into the corner and lose grip. I don't use any mechanical steering stops. Maybe have to change the angle of the fork.
Suggestions anyone?
