Finally nice to see a RTF mini with switchable rate/stability mode. Not sure but was that carefree mode I saw as well? Low batt telemetry is a nice plus as well. The copter and lighting looks great but NO thanks on the $149 price point. Add RTH plus alt hold, then drop it to $75 and it's a deal.

Looks like they went with a nylon frame similar to the nano QX for durability. Good competition for the 180QX.

I think the 180QX looks weak just like any other quad ... the traxxas looks different in a good way to me it just looks innovative and I like the 650mah battery that can give you 15min flight time!

The specs give a flying weight of 100g ( http://latrax.com/alias-specs.htm ).
That is more than the new 180QX (From the manual: 95g when carrying a camera)
and quite a bit more than the mQx (From the manual: 78g).

Visibility-wise: I do like the lights and the orange color version.
Experience will tell about durability.

Wonder if they made this quad themselves, outsourced it, or just OEM'ed someone else's quad, like they did with the QR-1. I haven't seen this one anywhere else.

The TX and the way you set rates for each mode, works a lot like the Hubsan, but then maybe they just did that for consistency with the QR-1.

do those quads use a big 650mah battery like the traxxas?

Those quads can use batteries that have 500 to 600mah ratings: Eflite and v929 stock have a 500, Hyperion has a 550, Nanotech and Glacier have 600.
As far as I know, they are all roughly the same size and weight.

about the only advantage i an see this quad having is customer support, and an apparently very durable frame. the battery telemetry is nice, but not needed most the time anyhow. "3 flight modes" are basically high/low rates and acro mode that the nqx has already.
will be watching for the chinese version to pop up soon

Don't confuse traditional dual rates with the ability to define the max angle of the flight envelope as Blade outlined in their SAFE tech introduction site.

The combination of the two and whatever algorithm each company employs will define these types of quads going forward.

The Alias does look like they refined the mQX style quad, updated with accelerometer support. Many features that already exist in various clones, refined and marketed by a brand such as Traxxas.

However, the market has already started moving with features such as Return to Home (RTH), altitude hold, FPV, etc..all in a RTF package.

I think the Alias looks good. The clear diffusion lens should give some strength to the arms and make it less twisty like the NanoQX. It'll need to be since it's a bigger quad than the NQX.

I'm in! Once I can figure out how to choose green.

It seems that Traxxas is selling it right now, but I don't see how to pick a color at their store.

And, Tower Hobbies says it's not in stock until Mid Nov. I figured out how to pick my color there, but I don't see spare batteries listed. And at $149.95, it's just under being able to use their $20 off $150 order. heh
