Hello all - I was just turned onto this thread a week or two ago and have been studying these plans. Thanks so much to Au117 for putting the plans out for what looks like a pretty spectacular model!
I also just acquired the GP F86 that I have yet to maiden. I have been planning to build this F35 as a recipient for the F86 guts once I smash it beyond repair. However, I think I already have pretty much everything needed for this plane except a fan/motor/esc combo, so I thought I might go on and give it a shot. Would this one work well with this plane? I'd pair it with a 12A ESC, so there is a little pad on the amps. Past that I've got a DSM2 knock off Rx and a handful of 4g and 5g servos all powered by a 2S 330mah 25C lipo. I'd be going for the 'C' version just to lower the wing loading a little bit (I have a pretty tight flying area). This F86 is my first EDF model, so this is all new territory for me. TIA for the help. J. B. p.s. After looking at this, it seems that this gear is a bit big/heavy, I think I'd have a hard time keeping the weight in control. What about this smaller EDF unit? A little lighter on the motor, and a little bit less amp draw, so I could get away with a little smaller ESC and probably the smaller, 220mah battery. Still seems like it'd have about a 1:1 thrust to weight ratio. How small of servos do you think you could put on this model? I'm wondering if I could use the little 2.5g or 3g sized ones. How big are the stock GP F86 ones? This is one of my complaints about the F86, no access to the equipment!!! |

Thanks DJ. I couldn't help myself, so I just went on and ordered a whole new set up... imagine that!
![]() I ended up ordering a 27mm fan from BP Hobbies. 10,000kv motor and 7 blade rotor. I also ordered a Proton 6A ESC and some 2.5g servos from Hobbypartz. The system will be powered by a 2S 220mah 25C battery from RCPlaneBuilder. This'll be a fun experiment into micro EDFs, I can't wait to get started! J. B. |

I've flown my 53g F-35C with HK's version of the 27mm fan you described and I've also flown the stock GP Micro Sabre. There's no comparison...the Sabre with GP's 30mm Hyperflow system has way more power (same 180mah 2S batteries for the comparison) and is a lot more fun to fly! I've started my second F-35C with (you guessed it) 30mm GP Hyperflow EDF. Will report when I fly version 2. |

Thanks for the note Bill. I have read some mixed reviews on this 27mm fan... I'm curious if the one I've ordered from BP is the same one. The fan and rotor certainly look exactly like the HK one, but the motor is listed with different specs. If it gets anywhere close to what they have listed (72g static thrust on 8.4V at 4.9A and 66g static thrust on 8.0V at 4.6A) it ought to move this little bird at a pretty good clip!
I'll look forward to hearing how your second F35 turns out, good luck! J. B. |

Hyperflow 30mm EDF question
Have started my second F-35C following au117's plans. Using the EDF above and a bit puzzled...although there's a stator ring, there's really no "shroud" . Am I missing something? I can't find anything on GP's website to indicate there should be a traditional shroud.
