I just use Rustoleum spary paint in a rattle can.....others have also used a primer coat first, or you can use sticky vinyl

some more answers to your paint question

I masked the white part of the Miss America Mustang, then painted the blue followed by the red with Rustoleum, used tape and scrap paper to avoid sticking to the blue when painting the red, then added the vinyl letters and stars ( hope that makes sense)
but Bakkie broke her backbone yesterday.....

similiar method for the Sea Fury, but I used a brush on the top of the fuselage, as the masking tape tends to pull the new paint off.....

all surfaces of the Sabre were painted Rustoleum Silver, then vinyl for the yellow bands and numbers

the Corosair had maroon vinyl applied

for the Spitfire, I couldnt find the colors I wanted in Rustoleum, so I bought enamel paint at the LHS and used a borrowed spray gun

planning for a snow camo scheme in vinyl for the A-10

I found the Rustoleum at Builders Warehouse here in PE
