Clean Sweep 60" pics

Following the quiet success of the 48" original Clean Sweep, I was asked to draw up and build a 60" version, to suit a 5S (or .46 glo) power train.

60"
600 sq in
5 - 6 lb AUW

4260 600kv motor
80A ESC
5S 4000 pack

Home moulded canopy (my first attempt)

I've obviously kept the swept-forward wing, but changed the aerofoil to a semi-symmetrical E207.

We'll see how it goes, eh?

So here're a few pics to show the progress to date.....

Tim,

Looks very nice. Is the elevator actuated like in a saiplane through a longish linkage (ie nyrod) or will the servo be mounted on the tail?

Looks pretty nice. Great lines.

Have you ever mocked it up without the side pods on the nose?

Thanks Gents!

The elevator is indeed connected to a long snake (nyrod), with the servo being mounted in the cabin area. It would be awkward to mount it in the tail - the fin is too thin to hide a servo, and if it was in the rear fuselage, then the linkage would be fully exposed as it went up the side of the fin.

No, I haven't tried it woithout the dummy side cheeks, but I know of one modeller who has built the 48" version with a 'clean' nose. Although he's very happy with the results (and the flight performance), I think it looks a bit slab-sided. The cheeks do add a measure of rigidity to the nose as well!

Gentlemen,

I think we're good to go! AUW is 5lb 13oz giving a 22 oz/ft wing loading.

I managed to get in a few comparison shots this morning - just before I was dragged off to local restuarant for my Crimbo dinner!

So.....today was the day!

A single flight in the New Years sunshine, and the model is a keeper already. Loops, rolls, bunts, inverted passes, etc. No problems.

Smooth, but lively!

Nice one Tim. Will keep an eye out for whatever RCM&E is called in the US this year.

Well, the CS60 has quite a few flights to its credit now, and I'm still delighted with its performance.

Anyway, this is just a heads-up that the new May 2013 issue of RCM+E carries the CS60 as its freebie plan.

Just thought you should know......
