Boothbay Harbor Shipyard tour

The Downeast Ship Modelers Guild had a nice tour of the local shipyard last week.
Weather was perfect.
Here are a couple of very good links concerning the Morrissey.

The fact that the ENTIRE HULL, is going to be "fendered", tells me it will most likely be working with Submarines. So, start looking for tugs that are used at Sub Bases.

Jerome, could the wood in #13 be padauk ? If so it can be harmful if the saw dust gets inhaled. It machine saws in a very fine powder.

Bill. It certainly could be.
They have been cutting it out with a chain saw and they said it is brutal on the chain.
The pinkish color sort of made me think it might be padauk as well.
Shipwright don't care about dust. They just want it out of there way in order to put a new piece in.
Thinking of the tug I'll bet she came up from Portsmouth submarine base.
Sort of looks like this.

Red Oak can also have a red/pink tint to it and it eats chains.
