power system?

I have a scratch built biplane with a wing span of about 28". it's wieght is about 8 oz with covering. any idea's and a good motor & gearbox combo? I have a couple GWS 300c motor & gearbox combo's left from my many crashes and some speed 400's as well.
would any of these work or would they be too much ?any idea's?

Cheers Brain

If you need weight up front, then a lightly run big engine is electrically efficient, but power to weight is not good.

If its 80z bare, its likely to be 12-14oz with motor and pack, which is spot on 300 territory IMHO.

Can you weigh it all up with radio, and a 300, box prop, etc to get an all up weight?

If its over 16 oz, then a 400, but 300 would be better IMHO.

Power

ok with a 300c motor and a 9.6v 730mAh bat, it's about 13.5/14oz. here's a pic of the motor I flew it with it had no climb and no speed really to speak of .

Thanks Brian

That's an IPS motor...never mind climb or speed, I'm surprised it even stayed airborne...

I have an IPS with S2 gearing in my 7.4 oz. Northrop Alpha and it's fine but I'd hate to think of it trying to pull a 13.5 oz. airplane around.

That was the motor the fellow at the hobby shop said I should use, as the plane when finished weighted 8oz with the covering??? I suffer from not having enough experience I guess. but like I said it was up there but just barely..lol.. Since my last post I've put in the 300c with a 9070 prop I had kicking around, it went really much better climbed good and had some speed. but now it's just so much balsa smashed all over the feild weeeeeee.....

Back to the old drawing board
Cheers Brian

I'll second the EPS-300 recommendation. Any brushless in that size would work as well. Which model is it? Got any pics?
