If you can't connect to your PC, how do you know it's recording properly?

I've never seen a device so picky about USB cables before. Bet that's still your problem if you know for a fact it's recording ok.

I tried the OEM cable on my 808 that charged it fine but wouldn't connect to my PC. I had to find another cable that would both charge it and allow it to connect. Fortunately I had a heavy cable laying around that came from an old Garmin GPS that I no longer use which allows my 808#16 to connect.

Good, glad you fixed it .
No one here knows how many #16's or Mobius's have been sold, but a bad OEM cable is a ?weekly? occurance on the 2 threads, & is well documented.
What with free postage, and bulk buying, it is probably uneconomic to provide an upmarket cable, just replace the faulty ones. Thats my thoughts.
It's not nice for the few that get got, but thats life.
I'd present the faulty cable to the landfill if I were you.

Yeah, really.

And the problem is, the only way to tell a good from a bad USB cable? A good one works; a bad one doesn't.

Better to say good one stays in use (until it fails) and a bad one goes in the Bin.
Setting up a testing station and research group to analyse usb cables could be a bit of a loss maker - it would cost more to post a suspect cable to the tested than to just buy a new one. & the Manufacturers know that.

Well, except that the one that doesn't work on one device may well work on another!

The device plugs can be flakey just like the cable and it's plugs. Some of my cables fit tighter in certain device sockets than others, but the cable always gets blamed for failed connections, it seems.

As an interesting aside, I have an app on my Galaxy S4 (i337) that tells me how many times the micro-USB port has been plugged in. Last time I looked, it was just under 3900 hits. That's 2 years worth of connections since I got it.
