36 inch cat
Thinking of getting back into boating with the idea of racing (not for competion but for fun)
What i would like to know is, for a 36 inch catamaran is there a standard Power set for racing, as the way i see it, everyone wants to fit the biggest motor and biggest battery and do unbelievable speeds in a straight line, which i think is rubbish.
Basically what i want to know is, what is the correct size motor (twin power) and lipo cells for this particularly size cat ? so that it is a good allround machine suitable for racing

With you being in the UK not sure of what your regulations are there but 36" would make a good candidate for Q class here in the US under NAMBA guidelines.
Q regulations are 40" max hull length with 6s lipo max for power. No limits on motors used or how many although we are limited to 10,000 mah max capacity. (whether running a single or a twin you would still be limited to two 5000 ma packs).
When it comes to cornering, the wide cats are much better at it than the skinny "scale" type hulls. Aeromarine makes a 36" Avenger which handles chop and race water very well. Mine started life as a single but wound up converting it to a twin using HET 700-68-1500 motors. Twin conversion starts close to the bottom of page 3 in this thread. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...1868901&page=3
