Home wind speed monitoring?

I am not sure where to post this, but I am interested in getting some sort of home weather station specifically for wind speed monitoring. I am not interested in a dedicated read out display, instead I just want a web interface I can visit from my phone, tablet, or work computer that would let me see the real time wind speeds and direction at my house. Anyone know of a good system for that?

Sure, use someone else's station. You might be surprised how many are on the web.
Check here for local weather stations in your neighborhood.

Look down at the bottom for all the local stations. This is for Orlando FL

Just enter your zip code and see if anyone is nearby you.

Use the weather underground (wunderground) app on my iPad daily. Shows wind direction, speed, temp, rain, and all from a station a block away.

Is it normal for the wind direction to meet in the middle of the US and go up north?

Here's mine, and yeah I can access it via the Internet:

I'll add that as I type this it's showing an outdoor temperature of 34F, and this is in Southern California just 5 miles from the Surf City (Huntington Beach) pier.

One thing to consider though. At least in the area I live in, it is tough to get one placed in a position to be accurate. We live in relatively flat terrain by most standards, but probably best described as rolling terrain. Lots of woods and hills with mostly gentle grades varying between 500 to 800 ft. above sea level. I have a station in my yard flying field and know of at least 6 other's accessible on the internet within 5-6 miles of my house. On wind speed, they seldom even come close to being consistent with each other. Even wind direction might not agree, but is closer than speed. It is not unusual to find a 10-15mph difference in them all. And early on I played with mine at home and found that I could move it 100' and come up with wildly differing wind speeds depending on direction of wind. The only real consistency comes from stations located in areas that are basically as flat as a table top for several miles in all directions with no tall wooded areas close to them.

Not Internet capable but I'm happy with it. Works well and you can upload the data from the console to several websites if you so choose. Link here.

The inlet and exit holes on a wind sock are specific sizes so that it hangs at a certain angle depending on wind speed. Find you a small one and use that. They can be had pretty cheap.

Course back when I started flying we tied a piece of cassette tape to the antenna of the TX but that was when the antenna was more than a few inches long.
