Hangar 9 Hellcat

So years ago I had a Hangar 9 hellcat and like an idiot I sold it. I always regretted it and even more so when Horizon discontinued it. I found out quickly that if you want a horizon plane better get it cause it won't last.... I did manage to buy one NIB from a fellow member and I'm doing a conversion to electric. I found some other smaller threads but wanted to share my build with everyone.

I got the fuselage on the stand and then started to think... Hatch or no hatch??? I decided that I didn't want to have to remove the wing constantly to swap batteries so a hatch had to be cut. Hardest part so far was cutting through into the new fuselage. The hellcat has plenty of room inside and after inspection, cutting the hatch wasn't going to be that bad. So I cut it out!!!

Once the hatch was cut i then made two bulk heads by tracing the pattern from the fuse bulkhead. After a little trimming I CA'd them into place along with some triangle stock along the sides of the hatch to help with support. I used some balsa filler to fill in some low places. Once dry, I sanded the edges and it was ready to cover. I'm not the worlds best at covering but I cut some strips and wrapped around the edges of the hatch. I also did the same for the fuse opening. I'm really happy with the overall fit. It probably could be a little bit better in some places but it'll do the job and from 5ft away its barely noticeable. Next step will be building the battery tray and using magnets to secure the hatch

What motor are you planning to use?

I'm looking for new retracts for mine, the Eflight ones just didn't stand up to my crappy landing skills. There are some new electric Robarts that are exclusive to HH coming out soon but they are outrageously priced. Looking for suggestions.

Just my opinion but that is probably overkill, mine is kicking butt with an OS 5020 on 6 cells

I'm wanting to run a 3 blade master airscrew either a 15 or 16 size on 6 cells. Any Motor suggestions??? Retracts I'm planning on using the FMS rotating retracts out of the corsair and get some different struts. Have a few friends who have the 1700mm corsair and have never had any issues with them. I'm using the FMS retracts in my seagull P47 and they work fantastic.

Well the hatch is officially finished, very pleased with how it turned out. I also finished the battery tray and put it into position but have not epoxied it in place. Next item it to figure out the motor. I have a master airscrew 15x7 3 blade I'm wanting to use but still undecided on a motor. Right now I'm leaning towards my 50-65-400kv on 6 cell 5000mAh with a 100amp opto esc. Any suggestions???

Should work.
Let us no how the CG works out. If you need more nose weight I'd look at a power 110 on 8s. That way you can run a bigger prop.

You gonna fly her off the showroom or add some weathering to her finish?
