Repair 15 years of use and abuse,,, OS2U Kingfisher

So a few of you may have seen my Kingfisher over the years. I built it in about 1996-7,, can't remember really but more than 16 years ago.

Over the years a few mishaps and crashes cause water to enter the float, but it wasn't until a engine out hard landing last fall that I discovered how weak the float had become.

Last year I repaired some more minor damage from wear, that is chronicled here http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10..._3/key_/tm.htm

But it wasn't until I flew it again that I knew how bad it really was

Started gluing it up the new float

I used scrap to hole the support pieces aligned

The original float had a solid 1/4 keel, decided to use a framework this time,

A little more work then took it off the table to make sure the legs were aligned still, after confirming that I pinned it back down and sheeted the bottom,, after the bottom was done, I flipped it around to make the top/side planking easier..

Thank you Sir.

Did some shaping of the foam,,, I need to add foam to the supports to give it a little more of the scale shape instead of just the profile.

Did a little gluing up and dremel work, pics tell the story, Slow cure epoxy and 410 filler do a good job of filling the voids in the foam wing

I'll try and find a cameraman,, and borrow a decent camera

Letting the epoxy out-gas for a day or so,, then the sanding/primer/repeat/repeat will begin

I'm glad you decided to repair it. Hope to see it fly again at New London this year.
