Leopard LBP2845 on GearBox

My eyes got recently caught on this combo offered by Reisenauer and since I could not find many reviews, thought I should share this with you.

800Watts on 145gr impressed me, especially at the price they're available. Also Reisenauer is a very reliable company so I thought they wouldn't offer a worthless product.

I'm thinking of trying this on a Shadow (2100-2200 AUW) for F5J use and I believe it would be interested to have some reports on this.

Some specs:

Weight: 145g
Diameter: 28 mm
Length without shaft : 71 mm
Shaft: 6 mm
Shaft length: 17 mm
Pole: 4
KV 863
Voltage to 14V
Max. current 60 amp.
Max. power: 800 watts
Motor timing: 6-10
Motor frequence: 8-12 kHz

2s - 7,4V - 16x8,5 RF F5J M25, 5574 rpm, 31 amp. 232 watts, pitchspeed 72 km/h, Eta 82,4%
3s - 11V - 13x8, 8223 rpm, 44 amp. 486 watts, thrust 2575g, pitchspeed 100 km/h, Eta 81,5%
3s - 11V - 15x8, 7694 rpm, 62 amp, 687 watts, thrust 3565g, pitchspeed 94 km/h, Eta 77,3%
3s - 11V - 16x8,5 RF F5J M25, 7758 rpm, 60 amp. 662 watts, pitchspeed 100 km/h, Eta 77,9%
4s - 14,8V - 10x8 RF M24, 11344 rpm, 38 amp. 563 watts, thrust 2202g, pitchspeed 138 km/h, Eta 82,6%
4s - 14,8V - 13x9 RF M28, 10561 rpm, 58 amp. 852 watts, thrust 3446g, pitchspeed 145km/h, Eta 78,8%

Any thoughts appreciated.

If you only need 800 watts just use a peggy. I have the 3900kv in a model and it pulls 800w on 3s 2200. At minimum you'll need 1500-1800s. Although quad racers have used the Bonkas cells which may give you enough power with a 1300.

Where did you dig this thread out from, Jebera?

At ~104grams, I cannot find anything to compare this combo with. Top of the line quality in a nice price, too. Check its specs.

For the latest F5J glider's designs (what I had in mind when I posted this), I think even ~100grams are on the heavy side, concerning balancing the plane.

Reading your post about the (new) Shadow I guess your max RTF weight with 450 grams ballast is about 2.1 - 2.2 kg.

For my ballasted Xplorers on that weight with the (too) long nose I have good experiences with:

on a 12 *6 and 3S

or
http://www.reisenauer.de/artikeldetails.php5?aid=1346
on a RF 16 * 8.5 S

Both setups will bring you with a 2.2 kg plane to 220 -230 mtr in windy conditions.

Personally I prefer the scorpion setup because of the lower A draw (measured on my castle 32A versus 44). The slightly heavier motor is compensated by a lighter esc and lighter battery.

When you prefer in that conditions to go farther upwind too the viper might be your choice.

Alternative for the big spenders:

Perfect, using it for the fourth season and never regret the buy. More power compared to a 1025, lighter and no worries about burning the engine.

Your reports about the shadow made me hungry, so I ordered one too
BTW, you can order just the engine, not the gearbox and adapt your present setup to the newer engines and save a few euro's.

I see you've invested a lot, too on Reisenauer's !

It's nice to share all this info from your experiences on your Xs.

I believe Scorpions are exactly the same motors with Hyperion's corresponding series. I had the opportunity to open and check myself (even if the readings around confirm so) two couples of different series Hyperion-Scorpion motors and found out that besides different anodization, they're exactly the same to the last screw.

Actually the TenShock combo was my second choice for the next Shadow I've already ordered, too.

The plan is to build this one the lightest I can and determined exclusively as for my F5J primary glider (no plans for ballast on this one). The new Shadow's fuselage is slightly longer (on both ends) as also from the build of the one I'm currently flying, I found that I can go even lower (on weight) than 70-80grams of motor as also that 200-250Watts are enough for my F5J goals and ended up to this. Aircraft-World had the same motor (Hyperion branded) on sale and grabbed a couple of those.

Good to know that I've influenced fellas to give a chance to such a good glider. I'd be glad to have your comments on that thread, too.
