LOL!!!
I just got off the phone with him... you can't go wrong either way.

The stock Retracts/Struts obviously plug right in and work well.
They're just Airs and I hate running lines and lugging around a pump as much as the next guy.

But the Electrics save you alot in weight and hassle.
Tam's doing a good job on the mod for them and they'd be another great addition to the bird for sure.

*DECISIONS DECISIONS*

Electric Nose Gear is steered w/ an additional servo on a solid pushrod.

If anybody wants the manual please don't hesitate to send me an Email at: AceMigKiller@yahoo.com
or you can download it. LOL!

Got my Super Sniper XL today, & am very impressed. It appears to be a real keeper! Nice quality, & good size. It appears to be red whit & blue in person, with a decent quality paint job. Something about in an event of a total hull loss, my expense not exceeding $400 thats a welcome comforting change in this hobby.
One thing I noticed weird is that my flap is double beveled on its leading edge where it gets hinged to the wing, & my aileron has a single bevel (like a flap) where its hinged to the wing. Did the factory get this backwards?

Sort of.

It was a snafu on the prototype, and I asked for it to be corrected. Alas, I was not. Don't worry, it doesn't effect the way the flaps handle at all.
The Ailerons hinged at their current position provide almost *perfect* differential

Where did we leave off...

Ah yes; last time I updated my Sniper XL90 was still in primer and the gear doors were not complete.
Alot has happened, and now that the nose gear mod is finished and I have some paint on the bird, time to post updates and pics!!!

First up is the completion of the Nose Gear Mod ---

As you can see in the first picture, the last steps in the gear door mod is to assure positive, solid actuation and locking with both gear up/down.

- The spring tension on the Main Gear Door should keep it open during flight... plus we're not going to be deploying gear going Mach 2. The Front Door won't go anywhere simply because the Nose Strut is in the way.

- To actuate and secure the Main Gear Door, I used a piece of fishing line anchored near the front to both the gear door and the inside of the gear bay. You'll have to play with the tension to make sure it closes properly.
There's also a small magnet on the outside corner to help keep the door up and locked. I use a washer for the opposite contact... it's strong enough to keep everything secure, but not so strong that the strut doesn't easily kick it open when you deploy the gear.

That does it for the Nose Gear Door mod!
I can't wait to see it in the air; it's designed to be both cool/complex and functional

Arizona is great for painting!

Arizona is PERFECT for painting this time of the year.
In another month or so it'll be perfect pool weather too.

I won't bore you guys with the details... but after the gear door mod wrapped up I decided it was a good time to start shooting paint on the bird. Here's some teasers on my scheme.

Cheers,
Vic

Horizontal Stab Prep

Next I'm working on the Horizontal Stabilizer.

First thing up is to cut out the area for the servo bay.
Take a nice sharp razor saw to it and... oh hey, look here! Somebody decided it would be cool to run the main spar right through the middle of the servo bay... Genius.
Anyways if you encounter the same thing, please do what I'm doing ---
- Carefully cut away the existing spar just like the pictures attached to this post.
- Cut out a piece of 1/2" hardwood 4" long... it'll also be helpful to mark it at the 2" point for reference.
- Trial fit, trim (if necessary), then glue in the hardwood *behind* the servo bay... it fits really nicely and won't interfere with anything else.

Moving forward...
I'm choosing to pot my Elevator servo much like I did w/ my Aileron and Flap servos. So I made a mounting platform w/ rails, mounted the servo, then test fit it into the servo bay.
Using the Hyperion DS16-FMD servo and my custom mounting tray, I needed to cut out the servo bay just a little bit. If you need to, make sure to cut forward and not aft --- there's more room if you cut forward.
After everything was trimmed out, I simply glued the platform to the bottom of the Stab. and soon enough *bingo* a solidly mounted Elevator Servo
