Jack Clemens C 20' Macon Dirigible

It's off topic but a great example of an old guy achieving something nearly impossible in scale modelling:

Macon Anniversary Flight (9 min 36 sec)

Model USS Macon flies at Moffett (5 min 28 sec)

I saw that in the mag, really neat. I was flipping through an early 70's RCM, and there was a guy back then that made a Zeppelin that was R/C, about the same size....

Definitely a unique RC model. It's difficult to realize just how massive the full size Macon was. I kept looking at the tiny condola at the front of the ship that he was using as a hand hold to lead the ship around and imagining the flilght crew inside controling this monster.

Speaking of massive, I sure wouldn't want his MonoCote bill.

I think that the guy in the 70's was a doctor who lived somewhere near me in SoCal. Clemens's model is the "holy grail" of airship models. I often wish I had been born in the 20's to watch all the "gee whiz" aeronautical, railroad, automotive and motorcycle, etc., developments of the 30's and 40's. Bought my first first Indian Chief mc in 1953, I still have my current '48 Indian Chief at age 72.
