SE5a Hack Morph

I originally built part of the SE5a biplane. Then I changed my mind and just made it a low wing. It flew ok but not to my liking. Now its changing again with a new tail shape and wing from an older kit. The blue wing will be shrunk down and made from foam and newspaper covering.

Yes! Much faster then starting over. Awhile back, I had made the fuse slightly longer to be scaled with this other blue plane if I went this route. The wing will be slightly wider, longer, and thicker then the one that was on there. Servo's should fit inside.

I made some balsa spars from 1/16" and 3/16" balsa. Should keep it straight. Using the $ tree foam. Rolling the foam with a round tube shipping container.

Made one half. Still need some sanding. The spar tried to warp after I put on one side. I quickly wet the whole spar and it unwarped. It's pretty stiff right now. Should be stiff as a board when I glue the paper back on it.

2 panels made using the water activated white glue. Each weighs 1.15oz after drying out. Going to use a basswood dihedral brace to join them.

About done. Went from 11.5oz to 15oz now. If I upgrade the motor and battery then it's going to be 16oz.

I pulled the hurc 300 motor out and will replace it with something bigger. It flies ok but the climb out pretty much sucks. It does a wicked death spiral though. The green paint is hard to see at times. Might put some red stripes on it.

I was testing my new motor and got these results.

50g 1400kv motor
3s 500mah, 10.5 amps, 17oz thrust
3s 1800mah, 13 amps, 23oz thrust

I'll use the 1800mah.

It works! Increased the rudder throw some more as the plane is heavier. Still need p-mix on throttle to rudder for straight landings as right thust doesn't work.
