Hehehe ...

Pessimism or long term plans?

I would have opted for the ICS300 (to allow for future upgrades) but what you have will work just fine.

I dunno if you'll be happy with the 7.2v packs...i never tried em. Ive used KAN 1050 8.4v packs and a big ol' lipo and im pleased with the performance.
I couldnt find info about your charger - heres what you need:
1. true peak detecting type. Not peak predicting or timer. Those are junk.
2. Variable current setting. You need to charge those packs between .5a to .75amps. No more. Less wont hurt, but it'll just take longer to charge the pack.
Check out the specs on the charger and see if all looks kosher.

What you have will work just fine. Once you fly the SS and get good with it. I dare say you'll always want to have one around. I've had mine for almost 2 years and still fly it 3 or 4 times a week. It's set up exactly like yours except I fly 2's lipolys. I have a 350 motor on mine and I've been using the ICS 100 esc since I bought the plane new and I've never had a problem.
I have other planes with 350's and 400's with a ICS 300 esc and early motor shut downs have always been a problem. If you don't need the extra amps, and with this set-up you don't, stay with the ICS 100. You'll have far fewer problems with low power motor shut downs.
Put it together and fly that thing! You'll love it.
