My yard has a lot of trees, so I would want to find a field to fly it in. We have 3 or 4 RC clubs between 15 and 30 miles from my house, but I don't want to have to spend $100 to $120 a year for membership to the club and the AMA. The Nano QX is fun to fly around the trees and I don't have to worry about hitting one. It goes plenty fast for my yard and even total destruction would cost less than the likely repair cost if I ran the 200 QX into a tree.
Hmm, I don't buy my copters, or build my copters, to crash. I buy/build them to fly.

But seriously, the 200QX seems tougher than you give it credit for being. You would have a point if it was easy to crash it so hard that the whole thing is a write-off, but while I have quite a number of copters, including the 200QX, I have never broken one despite having crashed my smaller ones very hard. Maybe I am not trying hard enough In point of fact, I have several copters, both quads and hexacopters that I have never crashed.

While the 200QX is not cheap, the body and the props, being the most likely things to be damaged in a hard crash, are quite inexpensive. I'd suggest going over to the thread devoted to the 200QX to ask participants there about how easy or difficult it is to break these things, and what the cost of a typical repair would be. The only way I see a 200QX being a total write off would be if you crashed it into a pond.

Another approach to consider would be to develop your skills flying around yur trees with your nQX as fast as you dare, and then, when you can go through a few dozen flights without crashing, then look at upgrading to the 200QX in the confidence that you have the skills needed to fly it around your trees without crashing into them. I do not want to tell you what to do, but rather to ameliorate your concerns about the cost of a repair to a 200QX and of the likelihood of a crash once you have developed your skills using the nQX. That is, after all, why many of us get the nQX and it's competitors. That is exactly why I got the WLToys V252 Skylark, the Hubsan H107, and Blade Nano quads, as well as why I got my 200QX: develop my LOS skills using the inexpensive, tiny quads, and then develop them further with the moderately expensive 200QX, and finally my Blade 350QX2 (it is a lot less expensive to crash a 200QX than it would be to crash a 350QX2). For me, one of my goals is to fly the 350QX2 confidently, but I am working my way up to it through the Nano and 200QX. Hopefully, my 200QX and 350QX2 WILL NEVER experience a crash, because by the time I am doing interesting things with them, I will have developed my skills using the nQX. And my timeline is defined by my desire to be able to take aerial video of my youngest niece's wedding reception (so I have a year and a half): but do not tell anyone as she doesn't know this - it is to be a surprise.

I dont object to posts about heavy modifications here but feel that the quality of answers would probably be better on the dedicated thread.

I wonder if the site should start a StackExchange site for RC. That way the answers to common questions could more easily be searched and good answers would be obvious.

Many of the posters here are new owners. In many threads, frequently asked questions and their typical answers are stickied to page #1 so the same Q&A aren't asked as often. I don't know who has to do it or how it can be done.
