35' Towboat/workboat.

Was Driving down some back roads near the infamous Angola State Prison in Louisiana and saw this sitting in a scrapyard. She's 35' long 12' wide and 3 feet from flat bottom to deck. The superstructure is 18 feet long 4 feet of which is the pilothouse. The pilothouse is 7 feet wide by 8 feet high. The aft section is 66" high with a Cat engine inside - single screw. The foredeck is 10' and 7' make up the aft deck. You can see the propeller shaft strut sitting on the aft deck.the access hatch for the rudder is removed and looks to be about 2' from the stern. Didn't see the propeller, but she would have sat in a scoop out about 10 feet long aft. Looks like the propeller was about 24". There is a small stack up above a 6" raised deck aft of the pilothouse. Although I didn't get a good picture there is a 10" searchlight with raised navigation lights on the pilothouse roof. The hull is straight with a slight bow in at both the bow and stern with a slight raise to the shear forward. The knees are 5' tall. The bitts can be seen clearly. I know this will be added to my "someday" list of builds, but in the spirt of TowBoatJoe I'm sharing it here as it would be fun and somewhat easy build if you're interested. I took pictures of the faded name. The best I can make out it starts with a "Ma" and ends with a "G". If you do decide to build her PLEASE do a build log. I hope to get back and get more measurements as I had my 7 year old with me at the time and the clock was ticking

Somewhat in the same vain; only 25' in 1/12th scale. Not near weathered enough though.

That is an interesting craft, and construction. All steel plate. The rust is beautiful and an outstanding reference for weathering detail on any model.

How did those stones get arranged so perfectly?

Superb photos, Rmay!

I'm sure with a follow-up visit I could get that information. Looks like there are a ton of Caterpillar engine models on the web.

A bit of sandblasting and some paint looks like she'd be ready to work again

To my eye, it looks like someone took that first step (sandblasting) and then stopped for some reason.

If that's the case, too bad they didn't add a protective coat as they went.
