Was able to cut some aluminum parts, I am using the machine to cut parts for the machine.. how cool is that.

In case anyone curious, this is for the Z axis which will HOLD the Spindle in place. I am using a high speed router right now (which spin at a higher speed but have no torque and extremely noisy). I am making a Spindle, which will be able to put a motor on a belt system that will geared it down.

Cutting speed in video is 800mm/minute .5mm per pass, but this is first test cut. I was able to get about 1200-1300mm/minute. With a more sturdy (stronger bearings) it should be able to cut deeper per pass.

very cool! are you going to build the actual spindle parts to? I saw somewhere on cnczone a guy using a turnigy brushless motor and speed control to run a spindle. Very cool stuff but way over my head.

Yes, I have thought of using a RC brushless motor, I have the right motor to do it too...Soda can size.

However if you think about it, it's not as practical as you might think. First of, a Spindle mean sturdy, mostly slow rpm, high toque. Our RC brushless output a lot of power, but require a lot of power as well... DC. Then again, how would it hold up to a 2 hours milling job and how long will it last at that stage... RC motor are quite and you can add water jacket for water cooled. But where am I going to find a 36-40volt Power Supply 30-40amps range cheap enough.



My brushed harbor freight router on my old woody machine has been running for 3 years.. at least 100hours of cut.

What you see in the CAD drawing is what I am going to build.. still waiting for the big bearings to come for the Spindle.

I figured you had done the research. I am still learning about this stuff. I'm in the process of building a small cnc router myself. More like your first one with an mdf frame.

Who wouldn't want a big Spindle?

Not really... I have been at it all afternoon, just to lathe out the Spindle housing... I did spend 30mins on polishing it...
