When I was your age...

I wanted to start this after a few comments in the picture thread... please keep the list going.

When I was your age:

we had to surf the internet on dialup!
pictures downloaded slowly, in small chunks at a time!
A cordless phone, was still mounted to the wall of your house.

Retail stores, grocery stores, and gas stations were closed on Sunday. (Yeah, I'm that old)

When I needed to call in to the office I put on my pole climbers, grabbed my magneto telephone and up the telephone pole I went. Clipped on the two open line wires track side next to the pole on the bottom cross arm and cranked one long ring for east or two short rings for west. Signal Maintainer, Mingo Jct, OH. Conrail 1979.

Model plane were powered by rubber bands.
There were no computers.
TV was black & white and if you were lucky you could get three stations.
Half the cars in the HS parking lot had a hunting rifle in the trunk.
Stereo was mono.
Gay was queer.
Dope was the dumb kid.
I walked to school, uphill both ways.

TV remote was your dad throwing heavy edgy stuff at you until you got up and changed the channel on the knob.

We walked or rode a bicycle (if we had one) to anything within a 10-15 mile radius, cus' gasoline was too expensive to start the car(if your family had one...we didn't; my dad had a moped, that was about it...) for anything less than a longer trip, besides you only drove to places your parents needed to go to anyway. And cars were not allowed on the roads on sundays (All true!! Early seventies in Denmark....with the oil crisis and all o' that...)

The junk man roamed the streets in our neighborhood with a mule drawn wagon.
We had crystal sets, not transistor radios.
TV was black & white and we got one channel.
We were sent to the principals office for simple infractions such as chewing gum or talking in class.
The principal had a 3" x 24" wood paddle board. It smarted like h*ll.
Coca-Cola cost 5 cents, Saturday matinee was 15 cents.
Some of my rural relatives still had hand crank wall phones.
Everything seemed very modern at the time.

Well I did ride my bike to elementary school crossing busy roads.
Had Rotary dial phones.
Typewriters.
Chalk boards, not dry-erase. Overhead projectors were not digital. Teachers now even have wireless microphones at my daughters school. :/

I remember the overheadprojectors - with a bit of luck some of the teachers could use most of a session just trying to get the thing to work.....

When I was your age I had to out back of the house to the little house there to take a dump. In the winter there might be a foot of snow to go through and had to brush it off the seat as well.
