Extreme Flight Or Hangar-9?

So I'm thinking of getting a new 3D'er in the 60" wingspan area, and I'm torn between the Extreme Flight Yak 54 EXP 60" and the Hangar-9 Extra 330 SC 60e 64". I'd appreciate any input.
Thanks

Nothing Hanger 9 sells will match the performance of a plane from one of the 3D specialists like Extreme Flight.

You should also consider the AJ Aircraft Laser 60. I've got almost 300 flights on mine. The AJ Laser 60 is the best 60 sized 3D plane I've flown and I've flown a lot of them in almost 15 years flying 3D.

Go to the end of the video. after the flight and you'll see some close up video of the "Oz Mod" cooling vanes that makes the cowling much more attractive.

I'm going EF! I was looking at some of the sizes available, and I think I may go with the 48" series. I live within walking distance of a good size park, and it's a 40 min drive to the nearest field. So if I got an EF plane, I'd rather fly it every day than once a week.

If you're into the 48s, give this a look: Picking the Perfect 48" EXP

Yeah, I love the 48s because I can afford to have a lot of them and fly them often.

If you go with a 48", then don't go with the Yak.

My choice would be always the Extra.

Having built both Hangar 9 and EF planes the EF planes win hands down. The quality is better and the flight characteristics smoke the Hangar 9 stuff. Personally I would choose the EF Edge 540 if you are into more slow alpha and 3D. The Laser 60 would be a good choice as well. Check out Doc's blog posted above. He has flown all the EF 48's and 60's and provides a very good breakdown of the pros and cons of each of them.

I have the Edge 540 in both 48" and 60" and love it. It's so stable and smooth it makes me look like a much better pilot than I am.

If I could only have one 48", it would have to be the Extra. Then again, I am weird for Extras.

I love the Edge too but I feel guilty flying it because it's so easy.

A member of a few local clubs I fly at has a few EF Extras (different sizes, I think one is a 48"), and when I've seen him flying them, they always look so clean. He's a great pilot, but something about the EF planes, they just look so crisp, and the roll rate is impressive. That's one of the first things I noticed. It looks like it rolls fast, but it very controllable. As for which model I'd get, the Extra is out of stock everywhere I checked. But I like the Yak anyways.

I noticed the recommended motor for the 48" line is also out of stock everywhere I looked. What are some alternatives for motors? I couldn't find a full spec sheet, so I can't really match up a motor from a different brand.

The Motrolfly DM2820-750kv is a great motor for 48" planes swinging a 13-14" prop on 4S batteries. It will bolt right up to the stock motor mounts. The DM3615-750kv is even better but it takes a little more effort to mount. I love the 3615 in my 48" EF Edge.

The new XPWR 3910 is supposed to be the hot ticket right now, though I'm not sure it's stock status.

Wow, pretty pricey. I wish Extreme Flight would give recommendations. I understand them having their own motors they want people to buy, but what are we supposed to do when they're ALL sold out?

Yeah, the Motrolfly and XPWR motors are not budget motors by any means, but they are certainly at the top of the game in terms of quality and performance. I'm sure there are some really inexpensive motors that will work just fine, I was just recommending the Motrolfly motors because I have recent personal experience with them and know they work well in these 48" birds. I have used budget motors in other planes with great success, I just don't know off the top of my head which ones would be comparable.
