Smoke and fire from TP1010C charger.
I have a ThunderPower TP1010C charger with the latest firmware that I
use with the TP210 balancer to charge all my packs. I have been using
it for about 6 months or so with 10S FlightPower EVOlite 5350mAh and 6S
Hyperion 3700mAh packs with no problems at all. The charger and
balancer have worked flawlessly.
The other day I received a FlightPower EVOtx 3S 1500mAh pack for using
in my Spektrum transmitter. I soldered a deans connector onto the
pigtail that was provided by FlightPower and connected it to the
balancer and all went well. I then connected it to the charger and
selected 3S lipo and 1.5A charge rate.
The charger checked the pack voltage and said that the voltage was only
~7V and did I want to try and recover it? I pushed INC to indicate that
I did (I was a little surprised that the pack was at a low voltage, and
checking with my multimeter it is sitting at 7V or so). As soon as I
pushed INC the charger fan turned on and my 18A bench supply started
whining, which is usually a sign that it's working too hard. Then
within a second there was a flash of flame visible through the cooling
fan and smoke came out.
I immediately disconnected it and haven't used it since.
I have emailed ThunderPower to see if it will be covered under warranty, here's hoping!

Well it was trying to tell you there was a problem for sure.
I would have used the TP Combo to read the indivual cell voltages before I even considered starting a charge. In fact I would have used a DMM to check cell voltages ,wiring etc. before even connecting to anything that cost more than $20
