Looks great Bob! Nice and slow.

Now I want to dust mine off and get it in the air!

I built mine about maybe 6 years ago. It was always a good flyer. Others just love to watch it fly. I always had a bug in it I never found. The past 2 months had 3 crashes out of nowhere. I have had at least 10 crashes similar over the years. It would be flying nicely and just spiral in for the crash. I had to rebuild it 2 times already. Most were just fractures.

I changed receivers from 72mhz to 2.4hz. Checked range and functions. Still continued on through the years. Well last month I had a wandering aileron servo and changed it out. As I tested it, it was fine. But when I stuffed the wires in place it was jerking. I found the original servo splitter was a bad one. Replaced and now I have had 3 flights trouble free. After all those years.

I fly mine regularly. Would have flown it this morning if the positive wire hadn't come off the deans connector. I love this plane for an early morning sortie.

Re soldered the power lead and a fewnice flights this morning.

Am also looking for an unassembled ARF if anyone has one tucked away. Might be interested in a bipe of the same series too.

I've found that a 60 watt soldering iron works a lot better for Dean's connectors than my 30 watt one.

Have fun on your morning sorties!

Yeah, the higher wattage is great for regular deans.

Don't really know why, but the DR-1 is my favorite. I'm going to do another with some mods to make it lighter.

Beautiful model, radfordc! I watched your videos and it flies very realistically and very nicely. Great job with the build and with the flying! But don't forget to put the center wing bolts in next time... I'm actually amazed the wing stayed together without those bolts, that says your hardwood spars are plenty strong.

Thanks for sharing!

Steve

I am sorry, but I'm a little new to this and I didn't understand how to make the cowling. Is there a video or something I could see on this? Thanks Eric Hicks

Not sure what's in the video, but type this into google:

site:rcgroups.com

and whatever you want to search for to get a nice search. I posted a few years ago a way to add this as a search engine in Firefox.

But to answer your question, no video, but you laminate the cowling and then just start sanding. Start with coarse and work your way down. For a foam, sport scale (although I think this is a bit more than sport scale), eyeballing the curves will be good enough. Don't worry - it will look fine. I also used some 'lightweight spackling' to fill in some gaps and get a better surface. Mine is stall very far from perfect but (like when doing drywall) I just reached a point and said 'good enough.'

Post if you have other specific questions on building the cowling.

The video is for searching this forum also..
No need to goggle?
I found the cowling on the first page using the video's guidance..??
Three pages of ATTACHEMENTS AND PDF PLANS TO DOWNLOAD ALSO,plans and different ways to build all the parts.
Ya just might find other ways to make the cowling..
Just saying...
