You are welcome.
My CM is just a tad bit slower than my flying friends Vood Doo aad Strega. I have heard several people claim that the CM can do a tighter turn though.

I've heard the same.

I owned the CM, strega, and super corsair. Personally, I enjoy the handling & stability of the CM followed by the corsair. I only had 1 flight with the straga and passed it on to a friend which totalled it.

Quick story, I sold my CM to a friend which also crashed it (snapped in half easy fix) so he gave it to me and after I went ape shhh on it with glue the aircraft flew amazing. But I lost orientation and went in holy matrimony with the earth. No worries as everything else surprisingly survived.

Here's to Wednesday on my delivery.

Can do... I don't know, I've never seen it do a controlled tight turn...

We need to talk Justin into joining us.

Are you guys using the APC E series props?

What's a good straight replacement for the 4 blade on the HS version?

I see many of you are cutting down the 12x12as well.

Thanks

Yes a 12x12 cut down to 11x12 is what I used. Very good speed.

I believe you'll need a small parts cnc prop adapter. They are about 10-14$

Evan D..., If I splurge on some 60 C, 5 cell, 3300mah batteries, your VooDoo may be in trouble. But for now, my 35 C batts will have to do.

I haven't seen this posted, though I'm sure it is, so sorry to ask again. What's the top speed of the CM High Speed edition on 4s? Thinking seriously about getting one. Thanks!

On a strong 4S:
About 80 mph with stock 4 blade prop.
90-95 mph using a 2 blade 12x12 cut down to 10.5 - 11 inches.

How are the voodoo and strega viewed in relation to the Critical Mass? It seems to be they are faster, do they fly any better though?

My Strega is noticeably faster in a straight line, as it has the lower drag of its streamlined sleek fuselage plus its thinner wing and its smaller wing area. Great for smooth high speed aerobatics, like slow rolls, Cubans, large loops from 6 ft off the ground climbing to almost out of sight.

The Critical Mass excels in turns, literally on a dime if you wish. Yank and bank it and it will gladly oblige. Can fly smooth aerobatics at lower speeds. I think the CM is still very responsive and very stable at low speeds due to its thicker, higher lift wing, the wing root extension, its flat center section with slight outboard dihedral, and its wide chord semi elliptical wing planform. I actually prefer flying my CM over the Strega.

Both fly beautifully, but handle differently. I try to keep up airspeed with the Strega to avoid stalling her, not that the Strega has bad stall tendencies. I just feel more confident with the low speed handling of the CM specially for landings and touch and goes.

The Strega is tolerant of CoG placement.

The CM on the other hand, likes its CoG right at the white pin stripe (on the wing). To the rear of the white line and she will wallow all over the sky, at least both of my CMs do/did, I crashed the first one, btw. You also need at least 30% Expo on elevator and aileron to tame the sensitive elevator specially. Forward of the white line, she'll be ok in the air, but you might run out of up-elevator on landings.

It is a great flying plane!! With the 4 blade stock prop it flies with authority! I used to fly this plane and a strega with the exact same set up and they were dead even with the Critical Mass holding its speed in turns better if you just yank the controls. When I flew with my friend we would always do gradual smooth turns and neither of us could pull away from the other if flying the same style which to me says that the planes are identical in top speed. Critical Mass has much better low speed characteristics although the strega is still pretty awesome too! There is no need for elevator compensation on flaps either....

I haven't flown mine much as of late but over the last couple weeks I have gotten some really good flights with it! Since I have been flying off of the landing fear more, I just changed the wheels to some softer Hangar 9 wheels... I could always grease the landings with the stock gear but would love to have some better sounding wheels... these should be better.
