Multiplex cargo

What's the deal on the multiplex cargo? Is it going to be out anytime soon? What does everybody think about 4 280gd or 300gd wired in series (about 15-28 amps) with a single 7-cell 3000nmh? retracts?

Haven't yet heard of the release date but I sure would like to try one out. I already have an idea of what to paint it. If it's anything like the rest of the Multiplex lineup, then there should be no problems with the kit or the way it performs in flight.

So Karlton, when is it coming out?

Already available in Germany. The local hobby store has a stack of 8 inside the door. Makes a change from us having to wait weeks for the latest US film after release in the States !

My local model shop got one in yesterday.

I had a brief look in the box, and at the instructions. The plane features plug-in wings, and is made of the same silver/grey foam as the Twinstar. The construction is a lot more complex, featuring a lot of plywood and plastic mouldings.

Power is given as 7x1700-2000 cells. I still wonder about the current draw & duration, using 4x400 motors.

I was at MPX last Friday and they're thinking sometime in late June.

The local shop (West London Models)got them in on Friday and I saw one flying on Sunday. Flew OK once the pilot had sorted out the throttle/elevator mixing.

Rob,

that's an easy one:
http://www.schwab-modellbau.de/angeb.html

Schwab, Germany offers them for 235 DEM incl. 16%VAT which equals to about 90$ net.

sandman, the Cargo already comes with 4 Permax 400 6V motors. Why would you want to take a step back in power and performance with 280 or 300 motors? They also recommend a 2.3 to 1 400 class gear drive, if you want to run a gear drive.

Cute model with lots of customization potential.

Technically, NOT a scale model, even though it has lots of scale charisma....

Make you wonder why Multiplex did not just go ahead and do a stand off scale B-17 instead, with some very minor airfoil and flying surface area tweaks. They would probably sell about 3 times as many and the tooling would not have cost much more.

Maybe the B 17 is still not very popular in Germany. Remember the view they had of
b-17's in WW II!

My reasoning with the 280gd or 300gd was to get just about as much thrust with about 1/2 the amps draw. I would think that 4 sp400's would draw about 45 amps. Too much for 7 or 8 cells. You could run a series/parallel set up, but you would need two battery packs. I don't think that 4 geared 300's would be a step down in performance. I still haven't heard about what you guys think about retracts!

About a year ago before the Cargo was heard of, one of my flying buddies built a 'Quadrastar'. He bought a Twinstar kit and a spare wing. He cut and joined the two wings in such a way that he got an extended span wing with 4 motor nacelles. Still flys well.

Throttle/elevator mixing is a pet hate of mine - it's only 'needed' if the thrustlines and/or CG are wrong, and doesn't solve the problem anyway! One of the UK mag. columists wrote recently that he'd set up this mix to 'cure' a problem with his Twin Star climbing under power .... and wondered why it then dived into the ground each time he hand launched
