FY-41AP autopilot & OSD installation and debugging

Thank you for purchase FY-TECH produce.
At following, we will give some picture which include installation .

FY-41AP installation and debugging instruction
FY-41AP including the following modules
Ⅰ、GPS+FY-41AP modules

We will take the “Surfers 2000” aircraft as an example to introduce how to install and debug the FY-41AP in the following document.
1、 Please prepare the equipments “Figure 4” shows before install.

Figure 4 “Surfers 2000” and all the equipments which need to install

2、 Please connect the servos control wires to FY-41AP S1-S5 corresponding channel.

3、 Please weld the T plug to current sensor like the Figure 6 shows:

Attention the 2*4P wires put into FY-41AP which position and direction, black wire of 2*4P wires connect with “-”,and red wire connect with “+”

8. place FY-41AP , power manager ,GPS module, airspeed meter, camera ,video transmitter, RC receiver and so on in space of airplane and layout all module.
Use four shock sticks attach four pointer of FY-41AP, for example 12

9.layout all wires, apart top paper from shock stick, then attach on the wooden frame in space of airplane.

11.placement GPS ,airspeed meter,and camera at right place.
Placement GPS ,the antenna must be up at installation. Otherwise it can effect GPS receive of quality of signal. As possible as GPS module is far away some interfere source ,for example video transmitter, some module have Magnetism is more strong

On June 13, 2013 V1.12 update explanation:

1. Solved some video transmit system can not compatible with FY-41AP problems.

2. The low power alarm basic standard set to 3.6V.

Here is my FY41 installed on X8 test.

See not stable RTL function (see from 2:00), and well-known low-power indicator bug.

Gains set to 30-1-80 (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1904883)

Maiden flight on X8 with FY41 (13 min 34 sec)


Help me to improve RTL stability (and NAV flight in the future).

FY-41AP Multirotor port


I’m using FY-41AP for multirotor. During setup Motor 1 stop rotation at 48%. Motor 1 connect to S1 port

I already change connection ESC also the same. I took Motor 2 ESC and connect to S1, now the Motor 2 also stop rotation at 48%.

I believe something wrong with the S1 port on FY-41AP. Any suggestion?

I think you need adjust two parameters .
1. you can use "FY-DOS SETTING v1.1",set the roll gain : 65, because it help control your aileron more stability, then it can control your plane go straight to home.


2. you will recover "turn control " parameter : 60 20 60

if you adjust roll gain , but the plane can't fly straightly at RTL mode, We think that have tow reasons.

1. you can adjust turn PID parameter ,like follow it

2. I think the video recorder is too closed to GPS module, perhaps the video recorder have high frequence signal interrupt to GPS . so you should install GPS module is far away the Video Recorder.

FY-41AP Adjust parameter methods
There are two ways to set the FY-41AP
(1)One is via remote control and OSD overlay menu settings:
(2)Another solution is connected via USB cable to the computer by using the setting software to set up. Here we introduce the use of these two methods.

① We will take FUTABA T8FG RC as a example, the 3-pistion-switch SE in FUTABA T8FG is corresponding RC receiver fifth channel(FY-41AP SW1 is connected to RC receiver fifth channel), the 3-pistion-switch SG in FUTABA T8FG is corresponding RC receiver sixth channel(FY-41AP SW1 is connected to RC receiver sixth channel).Power on and switch SW2 to NULL(control SG switch into middle position),switch SW1 to ABM mode(control SE switch into middle position).Then power on the FY-41AP and left tilt the aircraft and observe the ALI servos reaction .If the reaction is like picture below shows, then you should adjust the AIL auto control movement direction;

④ The purple LED flashes continuously even when the FY-41AP remains stationary and you never activate the motor.(When you in non navigation mode, which means SW2 is “NULL”).That’s means you need to do the gyro rest.
Gyro reset procedure:
1,power on and keep stationary.
2,switch to ABM.
3,On SW1,switch ABM to Deactivated Mode 6 times, time interval has to be less than 3 seconds as follows:
ABM→ Deactivated Mode → ABM → Deactivated Mode → ABM → Deactivated Mode → ABM → Deactivated Mode → ABM → Deactivated Mode → ABM → Deactivated Mode.
4,FY-41AP LED will flash white about one second.
5,After white lamp lights off, the re-setting / initialization is complete.

●FY-41AP has an arrow printed on the top of it. Normally Orientate the arrow towards the front of the craft.

Setting procedure:
A. First, Read the current installation direction(default is arrow front).

Usually, we need a 3-position switch (named as “SW2”) to switch the navigation mode, you can set different functions by software in sw2.
Note: SW2 is priority than SW1, only when SW2 is in "Null" mode, then SW1 can work. so, we have to set a NULL, otherwise SW1 doesn’t work. We recommend SW2 middle position is set to Null, both sides can be set the navigation mode which you like.
SW2 is a 2-position switch.
We recommend to set it as the right picture of above, the “middle” and the “down” position is set to null, the “up” position is used to select the navigation mode you like.

If the plane distance from home point more than the “Max Distance Setting ”which you set, the FY-41AP will automatically into Auto Return To Launch Mode(RTH), in order to prevent aircraft fly away due to no“Fail-Safe”setting of the Remote Controller. FY-41AP default flight max distance is 4000 meters. Also at "RC remote control mode”, increased the judgment of RC receiver and FY-41AP connectivity, if they all disconnect , the FY-41AP will automatic into Auto Return To Launch Mode(RTH)

FY-41AP : how can i Power supply my FLAP servos?


hi all,
I have one fy-41ap and have connected a separate BEC (7,4V-7A) to power supply the HV servos (view A connectors); as you know, in the view A connectors aren't the FLAP plugs, so i intend to use the remain channels on the radio (the original flaps ch connectors) But the radio rx are powered by the 5V FY-41AP power supply, not from the BEC's ESC.
So, I put here some question:
1) can i supply the RX with the same external BEC, at 7,4V? (obvious that my Rx must accept 5v-9V power supply).
2) If the answer to Q1 will be NOT, can I do it by a new other BEC (5V or 7,4V)?. fr example the ESC's BEC that I haven't yet used.
3) in the fy-41AP's cable that power up the RX there are 3 wires, black (-), red (+5v), white (?). Nobody knows what it is for, or signal leads, the white wire? preps are the ESC's throttle signal from Rx to the Autopilot?
4) finally ,... someone has a wiring diagram for the servos flaps, to be uploaded?

hello,ITA

1. if your RX accept 5V~9V, you don't supply BEC 7.4V to RC. because FY-41AP supply +5v to RC.
if you supply the RX with the same external BEC ,at 7.4v. you will change red wire . In the FY-41AP 's cable that power up the RX there are 3 wires, you must pull out the red wire , then plug into idle signal port (the middle of needles) . for example the follow pictures:

Altitude

Are you planning on adding a user setting for the RTH Altitude height.

Some electric pylons are around the height that it's set at.
I prefer to set my own RTH height, depending on the location I'm flying.

And would be an excellent update to the firmware

i too would love to see this setting in the osd menu, i think it can be set in the gcs4 software though under target altitude?

Is it possible that also the black wire should be connected at the fy-41ap, toghether with the wire red one? I think so, otherwise, how the power circuit could be "closed"?.
Then, only the white wire mast will remain connected to the RX, that which in turn will be powered by an external BEC by 7,4V
what do you think about all this?
by procedeing in this way i will short te circuit A with the circuit B? what prohibited from the users manual?

....is it possible to convert the fy-41ap fixed airplane in a multirotor version? if yes, how?
