Mini-Review
NCFM Bluto

North Coast Flying Machines have just released the latest version of the Bluto epp 60" slope racer.

I have been lucky enough to have been flying a pre production version for the last month, and it is an absolute cracker.

It's seriously fast, agile and dead easy to fly because it is fantastically stable, it makes flying accurate lines dead easy.

For medium to big air it is the best foamie I have flown - and I have flown quite a few..

Heres a bit of vid of Kev Newton during a brief test flight he had with mine during our recent hol at La Muela, Spain.

NCFM Bluto (7 min 27 sec)

To put the day the vid was taken into prospective we had run a small f3f comp there a few hours earlier most rounds were flown about 50sec.

So not a fast day.

Nice, the engineering details are just amazing, I saw an early model and I was impressed. Now if Matin makes it up to blossom he could test it MOM.

So stoked to see this finally back in production! I love the new slightly forward swept wing planform. Hope it's a success, looks like it flies nice

I swore off building foamies a long time ago (with the exception of the odd combat wing) but this one is surely an attention getter.

Yes three control surfaces, I have all three working as elevators, I haven't tried it with just the centre surface running.

I have also got a crow setting, which sort of works, but best used with some height to slow up a little then left alone for the actual landing. I haven't spent any amount of time though setting this up so it may be better with some fiddling.

The real benefit I see from the 3rd surface is that the wing can always be running trimmed at optimum, many similar models have a fixed area which may or may not be set during the building stage at just the right amount of reflex. Since the models first flight I have removed 45g of lead from the nose, I haven't yet gone beyond the point and worked it back so it may still be able to have more removed. What is interesting about this is that the model flew happily when first flown and a little better now. Most planks are CG hyper-critical, I haven't found that to be the case with the Bluto, again this may be because it can have it total trailing edge re trimmed to suit.

I want one.. so queue me up! Just put together and started flying here on the Colorado west slope a Bluto 56 that I have been lugging around since around '03. Great flyer...fast and yet very stable when slowed down. Hmmm... with separate elevator on the new Bluto, does this mean landing crow will be possible for 'dropping' it in to those slopes with no or very little landing area?
