Question
Robbe f14 Marine radio

Is Harbor Models the only supplier in N. America for the Robbe f14 Marine radio? Does anyone know where they may be at a better price? Thanks for your time....

Either Harbor or SnT is the only importer (it's gone back and forth, iirc...), and one buys from the other... the radios are special runs for the US market, as the Euro frequencies are different.
Would be nice if Robbe would make a twin throttle for one of their newer computer radios, because now you can get a 2.4 GHz module to "Federalize" it...

Toes,
Thanks for the response, I e-mailed shipsnthings for a price quote, will let you know how things went.

Pat,
I agree, would be nice to just have a larger selection of twin throttled radios as well as computerized one .

Radio will be going in a Tian Jie, S 100 Schnellboot, running 3 - 400 electrics. The 2 outside will be controlled with on channel and the center motor on another. It seems like overkill to have all these function possible just to control two separate motors.

Get a cheap radio, take the money you save and buy a microcomputer and extra ESCs to do the job for you:

Pat,

I'd really like to do that, it's really intriguing but from what I've seen and read from the two links, I'm completely lost. I wouldn't know where to start. I'm a little computer savvy. I built this gaming machine I'm using now, I think this may be a little different. I would like to give it a shot though

If you can program in Basic and can solder wires, you've got it made.
www.parallax.com

I used their cheapest unit, a Basic Stamp 1.

More flexibility can be had in their Stamp 2, which is available in a DIY kit.

OK, one more hitch: You don't NEED it, but I often used a 'scope to help debug issues...

Or you could use Action Electronics set for 3 motors with kick in central motor, they also do a lot of other variations for multi engine boats.

VO70,

That's an interesting setup. Can the port and starboard motor be controlled separately in forward or reverse? What is the coast range?

thx,
dan

Hi Dan

Not sure of the answer for that set up but they do a lot of different ones that will allow mixing of the outer motors with the centre on "normal" throttle.

Have a look at their site here for wiring plans and pricing.

Richard

ps nothing to do with Action other than satisfied customer

I wasn't happy with their mixer in the PT, that was why I went with my own for programming flexibility. Their routine had some odd characteristics... like it would kick in unexpectedly with counter-rotation (spin in place) when I was maneuvering at slow speeds, very annoying.
Also, any mixer that starts differentiating left to right while underway at any speed is a waste, because rudder is all you need. My program ONLY differentiates when throttle = 0 and there's a steering input... very easy to control.

I'm talking with one of the guys in our club, he seems to be up on this.

Dan & Richard, thanks for the input, the wiring diagrams will really come in handy

We may give Pat's design a try, I really like his idea but I need to sit down with the guy from our club before we make a decision.
