Help!
KK2.1 Stability

Hey Friends. I am looking for some help with my second Quad build.
F450 size, 10 x 4.5 props using KK2.1 controller. All is up and running and I have had it off the ground about 30 inches. Not all that stable on takeoff or hover. If there was no extra weight on this quad I am sure it would be just fine but I have a brushless gimbal on front. I have moved the 2200 mA battery back a little to try and balance the front end weight of GoPro with Gimbal. My first quad is for playing but this one is only going to be used for video shooting.

Looking for someone to give me some advise on setting up the KK2 boards to be more stable to just hover for videos. As a total rookie quad pilot I want to set this quad up to be as dimear and stable as possible. I know how to set the data on the KK2 and I have played with all the different screens but I do not really understand a lot of the settings.

I am looking for someone to advise me on the best setting on the KK2.1 board to make this quad fly as a no frills simple stable video shooting system. Thanks in advance.

What firmware are you using on your KK2.1? the fact that you do not mention it, makes me think you are using the stock firmware (which is rather poor)

This is one of the best firmware available for the KK2.1 http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2340156

There also is a dedicated thread for the KK2.1, so you might get more help here http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2061620

Definitely upgrade the firmware if you haven't already.

At a glance, it looks like your P gain is far too high and your stick scaling is far too low. Both my gains and my stick scaling are around the 50-70 mark (limits are 20 or so). P and I gain are what fundamentally gives you stability, stick scaling is meant as a way of reducing the control authority so the sticks aren't over sensitive. Also check your transmitter doesn't have any expo/dual rates or the like set up.

Self level gain is independent of the others, 100 seems a little high, I'm around 40 or so as I don't like it to be too strong. Sort out the gains and stick scaling first though.

Hi.

To add in here . Make sure that your transmitter is in airplane mode not helicopter mode . Make sure that the battery balances the Gopro 100% .

PI editor

Aileron/Elevator

P Gain 50
P Limit 35

I Gain 20
I limit 20

Yaw Rudder

P Gain 60
P Limit 50

I Gain 25
I Limit 20

Stick Scaling

Roll 35
Pitch 30
Yaw 80
Throttle 100

Self Level

P Gain 55
P limit 45

These work for me .
Now go on YouTube and watch some videos on how to tune the KK 2 boards .

Does the kk have a USB port, or does one have to but a "device" for it?

It has a LCD screen or I should say that most of them do.

No USB.

The benefit is that it is easy to change settings at the field without a PC/tablet or other device.

Thanks for the answer. Let me rephrase, how does one update the firmware without a USB connection?

Thank you so much guys - I knew I could count on you all. I will make the KK2 adjustments as you describe and move my battery to the best counter balance.

I will go through both links and do some reading before I take this quad out for a good test flight.

Yes this is my second KK2 controller. Both were brand new and I did not upgrade any firmware. I purchased some kind of USB interface for my Turnigy 9XR receiver to upgrade the firmware which I never used. I am unsure of this can be used to upgrade the firmware on the KK2.1.

Hi.

You need a USBASP to program the KK boards .

Something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/6PIN-Wire-Su...-/321455871442

You need the "6 pin version". If you buy the "10 pin version" you also need a 10-to-6 adapter

q450 quad with KK215 oscillation problem

Hi guys,
i just finished building my 450 quad. I can't seem the get rid of these slow speed oscillations, and the quad also gains some altitude by its own.

i tried different combinations in the PI Editor. These are my current settings:

Roll (Aileron) and Pitch (Elevator):
P Gain: 35
P Limit: 100
I Gain: 30
I Limit: 20

Yaw (rudder):
P Gain: 80
P Limit: 20
I Gain: 70
I Limit: : 10

Self level settings:
P Gain: 60
P Limit: 60

Hight dampening: 0
Firmware is Steveis 1.9S1 (pretty old, am planning to flash it with latest 1.19S1)

I am flying it with self level ON because without it I crashed once and I'm afraid of crashing again .
Props are balanced.

Here's a video
q450 (0 min 36 sec)

Thanks!

gigrl9999, you are flying in a lot of "ground effect" in that room. Try to find a larger room with an unobstructed floor and walls that are far away to reduce the turbulence you are stirring up.
