Boomer Video Back Up

Ok, here is my go at the video production thing.
Please excuse the quality, I rendered it down so it would play on a 56K connection.

the Video is a edited version of a clip sent to me by Doc E
It is some footage of the guys from the Bergen county club taking turns throwing and flying Rich Behrends Boomer.
Here is a small file for you dail up guys.

when I get a hold of George Lucus, the vids will get better.
But I like this vidio editing thing

This video is great. But maybe you can have two version video with different quality. For the guy with high speed internet, then they can enjoy the clear view.

Agreed, a high quality rendering for those of us with Broadband (or patience) would be great.

All this waiting stuff is killing me =)

Jeb I beleive the Guys shot that in New Jersey.
You can Bet your money that this summer you and I will find some
thermal spots and slopes in our area. we will go on a hill mission.
Dave Garwood did an artical on Blatnic park in Niskyuna NY.
But it requires an east wind. Its great to know there is an active glider pilot close by Jeb, we will get together soon.
Just finished my new Boomer (wing Loading) 2.34oz/sq.ft
Are you flying today? Just kidding, I hate the snow.

You can actually get good thermal generation when there's snow on the ground. Plowed parking lots are an obvious source as soon as the sun comes out, and a less obvious one is bodies of open water, like ponds. If a pond in a park has aerators to keep it free of ice, it can generate smooth continuous lift just from the heat differential between water and surrounding snow covered ground.

Right you are Deamon.
I got an 11 minute flight last month, it was a very cool day and I was driving by the G.E. plant in Niskiyuna (the lot is about an 1/8
mile square) Saw some gulls doing the roundy round so I stopped. Threw the Boomer and it just climbed right out with no effort on my part at all, just kept a good orbit of about 10 yards.
Then I got a bit worried as it got to small to see. i was laughing like a moron the whole time.

Cool! I like the hi res even better.

Mike - I think you might want to look into the divx codec (www.divx.com). It lets you compress full rez video to a reasonable size with GREAT quality. It's what is used for ripped movies traded through Kazaa. Almost DVD quality.

WOW< Stocker--- nice work. Great video. Nice launch footage. The guy doing most of the launches had a smooth touch. Makes my launches look PATHETIC.

Interesting that those launches seem very straight and true with no yaw at all. I'm experiencing major outside wing yaw on the launch. My boomer goes up at a perpendicular angle and I have to give it full left to get it to level out. HMMMM. Much food for thought. Were these guys using a launch preset, a little down elevon?

If you could show a close up of how you guys are gripping the leading edge, that would be helpful. Also, personally, I can't get enough of launch footage.

Great work....

Hmm, I beleive rich is only using expo on that Boomer.
for myself I still fly mine with my old trusty Neon, no presets.
It sounds as though you may be a little late in your release.
also if your arm is not very strait at the release point the yaw will happen. Make sure that during your throw that you actuall follow thru with the swing (Kind of like Golf) just because the club touched the ball you dont stop the swing. If you noticed when Mike would thro the Boomer he was following through with the swing. If you release you grip a little late in the rotation it really increases speed on the outboard wing section and causes that yaw, or severe roll over. Be aware of you style and what the plane is doing. then correct. technique is the difference in a strait
100' launch ,like Mike Got on the one throw or just getting another toss. The Boomer is very ready to give you massive hight
you just have to practice. I have a new camera so when the Snow blizzard clears away I will have the wife shoot some launches here at the park, and some pics of my grip too.

Yes indeed, I watched it about 5 times last night. I was all set to go out and work on my technique this morning but of course my activity director had me hanging xmas lights!!!!

I'll try releasing earlier and play with my grip a little when I get a break!!
