That being said, I would really like to own a 3DHS plane to see for myself if its worth the hype. I did fly a friends 70" Edge 3DHS and it was alright.
Sorry, but there is no such thing as a 3DHS 70" Edge, and there never has been. There "was" a 70" Slick (now 71"), and there is a 70" Velox (previously 68"). In the Edge series, there is a 41", 48", 58", 74" and 92", of which, I own all but the 92" (and would love to have it). I also have and "have" had, many other 3DHS planes (click on where it says "My hangar" at the bottom of this post.)

3DHS sell many other fine airplanes. The 57" Extra is a very good plane for people wanting to "step up" a bit from smaller planes or foamies. The motor and servos needed are really not all that expensive, as the recommended Hitec HS-225MGs are actually as cheap, and sometimes cheaper than the HS-65MG's. It is flown on 4S 4000mAH packs, and these are also very reasonably priced. The motor that most people consider to be the "best" for this plane (and any of the 5X size 3DHS planes) is the Motrolfly 4315-714, and it is reasonably priced also.

So...if you want to try a 3DHS plane, try one of the others...

72" Extra 330SC, again, sorry, but no such thing as a 3DHS 72" Edge.

Embarrassing! Yes it was the Extra 330 72" 3DHS in yellow, blue, and white. It's not my ship so a little senior moment there. I had to go back and take a look at the video one of the guys made.

So, the grass in our hay fields is way too tall so I decided to run up to the H.S. football field and try to get a couple flights in. Wow, landing on that flat stuff is soooo EASY!! I didn't realized just how bad this Texas soil is with holes and cracks and such. I'm going to have to do some serious dirt work and make a real landing strip.

6 flights last Sunday and a few the week before and I'm really comfortable with the Edge! Got KE spins figured out and some inverted harrier practice. The 48" Edge is a pussycat compared to my 51 Slick I flew yesterday. They are comparable down low and slow but the Slick becomes one angry bird when it comes to tumbles and such.
