-change out ele and rud servos ASAP. (I used 82mg's)
-replace control horns with heavy duty.
-change out connectors ASAP. (I used dubro ez connectors)
-unglue landing gear and re glue with heavy duty glue.
-check all motor and motor mounts screws using loctite or even glue.
-package tape inside the cowl. (Breaks extremely easy)
-replace prop. (I'm using apc 13x6.5)
-velcro canopy.
Here's a start.

Hey Gharddog03, I really liked your video I think you titled "808". I assume that was the camera you used. But which version is it? The HD? Thanks!

I took a little while to decide on a new model to take on my annual beach holiday with the family and so glad I chose this SBach. Took 30 minutes to put together...couple of vids I took...has definitley opened my eyes to buying more Dynam stuff. Only wish they did bigger 1.7m stuff like FMS.

Hey Sbach owners & experts, I have a few questions that I posted on the Dynam SU-26M forum, but didn't get much response over there, so I thought I'd hit you guys up, since this plane is so similar...

Can a simple mod retain this plane's capability on 3S, or is it just too large? I'm trying to reduce the variety of battery packs I need to maintain/buy. I'm pretty new to 3D, especially in a model this size, so I'm not looking for superior capability, but hover is a must. Maybe a prop change would be enough? Or a motor change? I'm willing to sacrifice some speed for adequate 3D thrust.

Also, anyone on this thread have experience with the Tacon Bigfoot 10 motor? I've read good things about it, and I'm considering it for a couple models, including this one, but I'm not sure it's ideally suited for what I want to achieve. Most folks seem to use it for a speed upgrade, but that's not a priority for me for this particular application. Is its 1100kV too high for a 3D plane of this size, or could it work well?

Lastly, any suggestions for a nice 3D capable foamie between 38 - 44" wingspan that performs on 3S? I like the look of these Dynam aerobats (and the FMS models too), but they are a tad larger than I prefer, and I'm having trouble finding much to match my criteria. I've had great experience with Horizon's models, and their new 44" Sukhoi would be ideal, but I hate the color scheme!

Thank you in advance for your input.

Plane hovers better than my Hitec Extra 300. I do run a 13x6.5APC prop as the Dynam stock prop disintegrated on the maiden. With a 1800mAH batt I can hover forever.
The motor, well the second motor, the first is still laying out in a field somewhere after it ripped itself off the firewall, got to be bad from pounding it into the ground after the rudder servo failed a couple of times. I replaced the motor withhttp://www.headsuphobby.com/Firepowe...otor-E-717.htm great thrust and stock speed, same prop. Now it flys better than ever. After all the problems I was going to screw this one to the garage wall, but now I want to keep her.
I bought the Hitec Weekender Extra 300 to replace this plane and was disappointed. Now that I have fixed up the Sbach, the Sbach flys much better IMO.

Thanks, Mike. So, are you flying on 3S now with that Firepower motor? I've wondered about those motors too. Based on your experience, I assume you would endorse them?

I fly 4S with 1800mAH batts. Can't endorse the motor as I"m totally new to setting up power systems. Jesse at HeadsUP emails back next day and was very helpful. Problem maybe with the FirePower motor is that it maybe about 5mm short because of the bolt on prop adapter. HeadsUp sells nylon spacers that would help you adjust the motor to the right length. I've long since tossed the stock collette as it failed me big time. The cowl and spinner are ruined by successive catastrophic mechanical failures so I can't say for sure how the FirePower motor fits.

Maiden flt with Flaperons Lemon 6Ch Rx with stabilizer

Got the SBach 342 from ValueHobby for $139.99 + $15.99shp. It was my Christmas present. Already it's my favorite after the maiden flt! I'm using a DX6i. I set it up with Flaperons and the 6Ch Lemon Rx w/Stab per mgdon's post in the Lemon 6Ch Rx with stabilizer thread here. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...&postcount=970

Maiden flt:
Maiden Flt Dynam SBach 342 - 1250mm wingspan with Lemon 6Ch Rx with Stabilizer Flaperons (1 min 29 sec)

You can see how well the "flaps" work for slow flt in video 2.
Dynam SBach 342 with Flaperons Lemon 6Ch receiver w/Stab - 1250mm or 49.2in wingspan (0 min 40 sec)

I've been flying planes a year come Jan. That's if you don't count the Cessna Corvalis 350 (TowerHobbies) I sold after breaking the nose gear on its 4th or 5th flt. I couldn't fix it without buying a whole new fuse so I don't count that one.

This is a nice bird. I didn't want to break anything the 1st day flying it so the throws are set to medium. On the 3rd flt I tried some faster flying and the pilot "ejected"! I did not notice Dynam forgot to put magnets in 2 of the 3 spots on the fuse. I'm sure they were not there and didn't notice they were 3 in the canopy until I had to retrieve it. The 1 in the top back pulled the 1 from the fuse out and it was still stuck to the canopy magnet. I put some tiny ones in the fuse that I have on hand where the missing ones should have been until I can get some larger ones. But the flts will have to be tame until then.

I plan on replacing the control horns. I already had to replace the ELE horn with a Dubro. It cracked after tightening the connector nut maybe a little too much. The Dubro plastic seems to be more flexible and less likely to crack.

Assembling the Dynam SBach 342 1250mm

The assembly on my SBach 342 went very easy. The only glue I used was the CA provided (small tube) to put the canopy on after installing my pilot, PJ. I hot-glued PJ to the canopy seat but she came off on her 1st ejection. Now she's got 2 of the extra wing screws holding her in along with the hot glue.

The wings slid on the CF rod easily & I put the 4 screws in to secure them after pulling the AIL wires into the fuse. I was hoping the wings would be easy to attach/detach/reattach so it would fit in my Honda CRV. It fits but have to cock it a little to get her in. I won't be taking the wings off for transport. It would be possible but a major PITA.

The screw package was a little confusing. I had to decipher which ones went where by the process of elimination. The smallest short screws went in the tail gear. It says to use 3 but there are only 2 holes. I tried the larger diameter short ones but they didn't fit. They did fit the spinner though. And there are extras for the spinner and LG and wing mounts, which is nice. And an extra prop is provided.

The landing gear was tough to mount. The directions don't mention nyloc nuts of which there are 4 provided, but only 2 needed AFAIK. The M3x10mm bolts, not screws, went in easily but holding the nylocs thru the fuse opening was not easy. There was no mention of bolts or nuts in the directions, only screws.

The ELE & RUD servos had to be centered which was easy enough and easy to get to. There's lots of room in the fuse. NICE. The Y-harness for AILS was connected to either the RUD or ELE wire for safekeeping during transport. Since I was setting up ELEVONS on my Tx and Rx, I didn't need it and put the R-AIL in the AIL (Ch2) port of my Lemon receiver. The L-AIL went into the FLAPS (AUX-1, Ch6) of the Rx. All servos came with the rod in a center hole for medium throws. I didn't bother to change for max throws but will later.

The major faux pas Dynam made was to forget to put 2 magnets in the arm siderails of the fuselage to hold the canopy on. I did not notice them not being there and failed to look and see the 3 placed on the canopy itself. The only one attached was at the top behind the pilot on the fuse. On my 3rd sortie the canopy came off and took the fuse magnet with it. At least it was still attached so I reglued it back to the fuse with FoamTac. The 2 empty spots on the siderails got 2 tiny magnets until I can buy some larger ones.

I bought a 4S 2200mAh 60C LiPo to use from ValueHobby. It flies very well with it. My 1st set of flts lasted 4.3 mins and took 712mAh to recharge or 32%.

I like this plane.
Don

P.S. I bought my plane from ValueHobby for $139.99 + $15.99 for shp. It came with Deans Ultra conns. I've only ready the last few pages and the 1st 10 but it seems the HXT 4mm banana or SuperTigre plugs came with it from NP originally. Maybe this is a Version 2?

Its a new year and I finally got thru every page in this thread. I have some work to do before the next flt. The 2nd flt and first grass field landing didn't go so well. I flew at the local elementary school ballfield for the 2nd flt and decided the grass would be OK. It wasn't. Had a nice landing but hit a divit and the LG peeled right off. Not much damage except a couple of dents in the wings from the LG hitting them and the foam torn off the bottom LG area.

I decided to use some spare plywood laying around and make the LG solid. After reading the entire thread I've decided to take the motor out completely, Loctite the screws in the motor mount and then add a custom plywood plate behind that. Looks like I'll have plenty of time to do it with the wx as it is.

I used Extreme packing tape (nylon threads thoughout) inside the cowling to keep its shape if it takes a hit, which I fully expect. I plan to add clear packing tape to the outside before the next flt too. Finally I'll add a velcro strap around the battery in addition to the velcro strap it lays on. The weather's been too cold to fly so it'll be fixing time for awhile.

Oddly enough your pilot "PJ" looks a lot like my pilot "Betty". Finally had to retire my beloved, but many times failed Sbach due to the canopy coming off on an outside loop and ejecting the battery, for the second time. Battery was strapped in and all magnets in place.
I was going to post after watching your first video that the landing gear isn't going to hold up to landing on the grass. Too late, sorry. Mine failed due to the plane auguring into the ground 5 times due to catastrophic mechanical failures. If you've read all the posts you might remember them. Wish I had a crash and burn video compilation. In all that Betty held tight. I glued her in with Foam-Tac. Oh the stories she could tell and the many times she spiraled down to earth. The airframe is still intact. If one ignores the firewall smashed in and the many rebuilds and mods to it there isn't even a dent or scratch on the plane. One tough airframe, except for the firewall and landing gear. May she RIP.
Good luck and many flights to you and yours.
PS...keep an eye on your rudder servo, it's the next to go....
