To give you an idea how I think..

I got 2x 4000mah 4s 45-90c Turnigy nanotechs
a 4000mah 5s 45-90c Turnigy nanotech
A zippy flightmax 4000mah 5s 40c pack
and a 4000mah 4s 25-50c Turnigy nanotech

on the lower mah range I got 3x 2200mah 45-90c nanotech pack

Now I try to keep my setups o based on those batteries. I got a pattern plane which flies on all the 4s packs and also the 4s 2200mahs in parallel so I bought a 900kv motor for that one
My F-22 raptor is flying on both 4s and 5s and that powersystem is going on the meteor
It used to be flying on 2200mah but I modded the battery compartment and fitted the larger packs

My next project after the Meteor is a flyfly Mirage. I want to build that for speed too
I'm putting a HET 1500kv motor and a HET9305 fan in that . I could have gone with 1680kv and fly on bothe 8s. I will go with the 1500 and I can still fly on 8s 9s and 10s too so I can cycle all the batteries and the new ones that I'm going to buy. I will also be able to put a stumax fan in there in the future and fly on 5s. I will buy a new 4s 45c nanotech another 5s and another zippy 4s 4000mah 40c so that I can fly my meteor with them and the flyfly on 9s with the zippys.

the 2200mah ones can still fly on the F-22 rebuild which is going to get the stock meteor setup with a HET fan

If i use a 5s will i have to balance the fan? I have a some vibration from 20 percent to the 30 percent range. Would it hurt it if I didnt?

let me say it this way. What stop good quality fans from blowing up is their balance.

Retracts and Battery Weight

I've got my new Meteor sitting in the garage waiting for some retracts from HK. I also have 5000 mAh battery that tops out at about 630 grams. Two questions. Anybody care to go into their experience adding the retracts and is 600 grams too heavy? I've seen a couple of pics on the gear here -- thanks, but more comment would be helpful. I appreciate the info here. It led to my pulling the trigger on this nice jet. So far I've just tested the electrics, adjusted the fan and checked all the connections for tightness. Oh, I've also found some matching blue paint for the underside. Thinking about a Thunderbird style design on the bottom.

Sounds really heavy. I have a 3.6 5S that sits around 500g, but the added retracts pushed it over the edge and while it still flys pretty well, needs a lot more speed to land. Also the wings are starting to show sighs of fatigue.

It was late when I ordered the battery and I think I confused comments about 5 cells vs 5000mAh. As soon as I took it out of the box I thought, oh boy--not good. I have a 4 cell 3300 that I'll just have to charge between flights for now.

I found some craft paint at a Michaels store that is amazingly close. It is the Folk Art brand #656, Metalic Blue Sapphire. The design should be far enough away from the tail with factory paint so the difference won't be noticable. I use an airbrush to apply. It likely won't be quite as shiny -- but close.

I was going to have to push the wing servo wire channels open a little to get the retract wires to fit. I may push a little harder and include a flat carbon rod on end to add stiffness across at least part of the wing.

Can anyone confirm for sure if this is the exact fan/motor/esc that comes with the Meteor? (disregard the servos in the picture)
