Contest
Summer Solstice Soaring -- June 21-22, Orlando, FL

Orlando Buzzards is going to have a contest on June 21-22.
Details to follow, but what we have so far:
Two day contest, plus Friday "Fling whatcha Bring" at noon.
Buzzards Field in East Orlando (AKA Christmas Florida).
No camping at the field, but hotels within 15 minutes of the field.
Raed will be the CD, with myself as trusty assistant.
Cost will be modest.
Fun will be high.

More later.
Hope you'll join us for the longest day of the year flying DLG's!

More Information

Here is a map of the general area.
The field and hotels are marked, attractions if you want to bring someone who wants to play while you fly. I will try to identify specific hotels ASAP.
I have three spare bedrooms (and a pool), plus use of my workshop (guess I'll have to clean up...).
The task list is in progress.
Tentatively schedule is there will be an ~8:45ish pilots meeting an 9AMstart time and fly till ~noon, then a long lunch/siesta (solar noon is 1:27PM), then fly from 2ish till 6ish. OR take a short lunch and quit around 4 or 5. Either way this will give 8+ hours of flying time.
8:30AM start time on Sunday. We should be able to get to flyoffs before lunch.

Buzzards Field Details

Here is the detailed Buzzards field information.
The likely winds will be NE to S, chance of wind from the west is fairly low this time of year. The drive in is marked.

Tentative Task list:

1) 5x2
2) Poker
3) AULD 3x3
4) last 5 in 7
5) last two 2x4min
6) Poker
7) ladder
8) 3x200
9) last 2x3
10) 3 of 6
11) Ladder
12) 5x2
13) 1,2,3,4
14) last 5 in 7

Flyoffs will be a little different, this being based on the number of participants and suggestions by Oleg.
Flyoffs:
1) All pilots enter. No timers.
2) All Up Last Down -- initially 3 minute max.
3) First pilot down is eliminated unless all pilots make the max.
4) Each time all pilots make the max, the target time increases by 30 seconds.
5) When two pilots remain, they fly one round of sudden death of 5x2, "blind", that is the timers are on the sidelines and can't offer advice. The timer system will announce the time at 15 second intervals.

Flyoffs sound fun. I like how it will be extended until someone wins. I especially like the "All pilots enter" .

Feedback says we need to push the start time back to around 9 and take the siesta under advisement.
So we'll adjust to 9AM start time (8:45 pilots meeting) and see if we want a long lunch or an early finish depending on how we feel.

Raed is going to keep score and be available for timing so we we will be able to do two groups no matter how many show up.

I propose that we all meet at Bubbalou's for Saturday night dinner.
About 20 minutes from the field.

This is a shameless bump, ala Austin.
We're still having a contest on June 21 and 22.
I have space available at my house.
We will definitely be doing an everyone flies flyoff elimination with blind rounds at the end (no helpers on the field).
Saturday night BBQ at BubbaLou's Bodacious BBQ, a local favorite.
Ya'll come now, ya hear.

Looking forward to this nee event.

Y'all Florida pilots - come out of the woods (or swamps?) and register for the event. Show your support. Mickey has serious intentions to grow this into a big annual contest.
