I also now use the double wide clamps to hold the central boom.

it is by far the most crash-able copter i have ever had. it just twists out of shape on impact, or it will brake at the Clamp point of the central boom, all that is required is to loosen the bolts trim it up with the dremel and clamp it back on, I lose about 150 mm each time, to I can have a crash that breaks something 4 or 5 times before it is needing a new boom.

I saved 45 grams on my Hex V by installing a single back leg modification as to having four legs. I cut an accessory plate in half to extend the second boom clamp off the frame as one clamp wasn't enough. Just an idea that worked well for me I wanted to share:

I see that you sand down the CF tubes to keep the clamps from rotating. I do that as well.

How does it work with the tape under the clamps? Does the tape keep the landing gear tube from rotating as well?

As for the tape, the clamps are direct to the CF tube, I just taped right up to the blocks for effect. I use the 3M electrical tape from home depot, the good stuff that comes in the round, clear plastic containers. It's really thin, sticks great, and doesn't leave any sticky residue when you take it off, even if it's been on there for a while. Plus they have a bunch of colors. The orange really stands out when you're airborne but I'm sure the other colors would work well too. With this weather I've been focusing on building rather than flying, so I might switch up the tape job and give it some more effect. I'm getting her ready for a photo shoot to submit to Rusty's Multicopter Model Search

I still this is the coolest variation I've seen from a customer! I just love it, and with all the FPV style frames out there now, I'm thinking of making this as an actual product. A single center tube would work fine for small copters, but maybe two central tubes would be used for larger copters.

Here is my latest incarnation of the rusty frame...it flys extremely stable. I have the MWC 2.0 FC from witespy on there...
