Looks like you are doing great. Your gimbal is nice and smooth.

Nice findings, im about to build a quad similar to the power systems used in the FY680, i want to do aerial video, i read that bigger props generate more vibrations, im thinking more in a 6S 13" prop build.

ESC: Sunrise BlHeli 30A (great ESC)
Motor:?
Emax 3110 480kv or Hengli w42-25 390kv.
Or others...

Weight without lipo would be arround 1.3kg
With a 6600mah 6s arround 2.1kg/2.2kg.

Any suggestion?

ESC's calibrating

My build is:
fy680
DYS SymonK 30a
Nada M v2
4c battery
Spectrum DX9
Spectrum 8000

My problem is that when ever I start up the motors I will only get 2 or 3 motors to start up. When I throttle up to about 50% the others will start up. I have read that I must first calibrate the ESC's. How do I do that?

My current setup has flown very well for around 2h.... until now

First off some general info & photos of my little bird.
Fy 680 Pro with extended arms to fit 14" props.
LD power 3508 580kv - 14"x4,7
Afro 30A ECS
DJI Naza v2 combo with iosb
Tarot 2axis gimbal with hero 3 camera
Taranis TX & RX

Conditions for todays flight was looking good with little wind and clear skyes.
Everything was promising and as I went on to arm the copter... then a small flash and spark from one motor followed by 5cm flames below the motors

As you all can see on my third pic the ESC is completely blown/burnt up.

What could possibly be the reason?

Sorry for your hassle. I know it is a pain.
You know these ESC handle a lot of current. If there is a bad solder joint with high resistance it can heat up in use. That can cause a FET to fail and even more heat. It is just luck that we get good or bad ESc's these days, they are all so cheap.
Also could be a small chip of metal in the motor shorting the windings is a possibility.

Good Luck

Thank you for your reply Mike_Kelly

I never thought a ESC would die on me in this way, i thought it would just stop the motor and that would be it. But this was quite dramatic with a large spark and 5cm flames bursting out from the ESC... to bad the gopro was mounted on the gimbal facing away from the faulty ESC.

God point Mike Kelly - do i dare use this motor again och should i trash it just in case off.
Even thought the ESC are cheap i would feel even more stupid if i just were to mount a new ESC and the same scenario would repeat it self again because the real cause was the motor...

I understand. Yes there are ways to test the motor first. Here is a thread where they were recently talking about just this situation.

But the simplest way would be to just buy a cheap low cost esc of low amp, just to test to see if the motor works before you put on a new expensive ESC.
