Alpina Magic

I've managed to lay my hands on an old Multiplex Alpina Magic (the one with removable tip extensions, and blade wing joiners).

I have heard that there were plastic elevator bellcranks in the earlier versions that used to get brittle and break, and later ones were glass fibre reinforced and that solved that problem. Does anyone know if mine has which bellcrank?

Alpina Magic

Hi all - Just had to say Snap!

If I've got the procedure right you should see my Magic somewhere near this posting - with dodgy bellcrank! Guess how I found out?

So - snap!

Pete

With two-piece wings, I'm not sure if it'll fit in my Sportube...?

Hi,

Checked mine, looks like reinforced plastic (black, a bit like the Airtech bellcrank)

No, the BMFA one was a bit over-priced IMO..

This was a swapsie deal I did with Andy B when he came over for a visit. Andy's become quite a fan of Alpinea (?): he has another one with glassed wings he scored off Lord D! Photos on home 'pooter to follow!

Woo Hoo Chris! You will enjoy flying that beauty.

I have had a chance to fly a friends Alpina 4001 in good alpine (thermal) conditions (Greens Peak, AZ). My toes tingled just doing (BIG) wing overs and stall turns. She looped and rolled effortlessly and with amazing energy retention. I want one!

TBH it's not quite as nice an all-rounder as the Volcano! I see it as more for lazy slermally days.
