E-Starter w/300C Questions

My maiden with my AF010 did not go so well last weekend. So rather than damaging the AF I decided to go back to the factory 300C set up. However, my E-starter is a whale at 17.5-ounces with factory 300C and 7-cell 720 nimh.

Questions: Will the factory 300C work with this weight? Should I use a 1080 or 9070 prop? (Motocalc indicates overtemp concerns)

I will have to hand luanch this bird since I doubt it will plow even short grass...

Anyone share their weight/set-up that will guide me before next weekend?

Many thanks.

Mine weighs 16 oz with 6 cell nicad - flies real good. Completely stock built. Rog's out of 3" grass. Yours sounds a little heavy but should be ok. I'm using the stock 10/8 prop - and it's flown on 7 cell 700 ni-cad, GWS 6 cell 600 ni-cad and GWS 7 cell 700 NIMH.

How would the Estarter fly with the Etec 1200-2S Lipoly Pack & the GWS 10x8 stock prop?

From the reports around here it will fly very well with the etec 1200. Use the 10x8 prop, I had the best performance with this. Take off at full throttle then fly around at half throttle.

My Speed 400 E-Starter

I had one of these and completely wore it out. I eventually strapped on a S400 direct drive/5 inch prop. It flew unreal. Took the gear off and ran 8 cell 1100`s. Totally transformed the plane in to a little aerobat.

Lots of fun.

Cheers

Has anybody actually flown both the Etec 1200-2S & 10x8 Prop -vs- the GWS 8-cell 730 Minh AAA pack & 9x7 prop? How do these two combinations compare (Which is better)?

I will be trying out my new E-tec 1200's in my E-starter this weekend after I modify my battery compartment for better access and cooling. I was a using 8 cell 800ma nimh and had good performance just short run times and the battery was getting way too hot. One new pack I had only lasted about 10 flights b4 it was shot (I'm guessing due to heat). I do not want this to happen to my e-tec batteries. I will post this weekend with the results....

nikko: odd....u doing pylon races with the e-starter?...I've used quite a few different packs with my 300c and a 10x8 prop....and i haven't killed any yet....

I've been flying a modified 300c (gearbox turned backwards), which even draws a little more current than standard...and a 1200mah 2s etec pack for a while now...with no sign of problems due to heat. I think the current draw I measured was somewhere between 8-9amps max...static. I hardly ever fly full throttle for the whole flight....I use full throttle to escape from gravity...but once up there...i fly mostly at about between 50% and 80% throttle until the power starts to fade....by the end of the flight i have no other choice but full throttle....batts and motor are usually quite warm

I have had a problem with my GWS P-51, beaver and Estarter with hot batteries. I read somewhere that it was due to using a 9.6 volt battery. I think that it is due to lack of ventilation on all of these models. I have modified my beaver already, drilling some holes on the side of the fuse. I am going to try to remove the battery hatch on the E-starter and replace it with velcro I saw on an earlier post, leaving part of the bottem open for better ventilation. I too run 3/4 to full throttle on the e-starter, but my beaver gets hot from running less than half.

This is where my concern comes in: Motocalc predicts overtemperature for the 300C with 7 and 8 cell packs. Seems like some of you are experiencing what Motocalc predicts.

E-techs

I am flying E-tech 1200's on the stock set-up and am having a complete blast. Prior I was using 8 cell 720 nimh packs from Aeromicro and they were nice.....but you can feel the difference in weight in the air.

I fly half throttle, no crazy stunts and have gone 25 minutes before I was ready to land. The battery had more to give as my Triton indicates putting back 400-500mah's!

I have a Razor 350 laying around but the plane flys so sweat now, I don't think I will mess with it.

I did see a long estarter thread where Guapoman2002 (?) had all kinds of data on different batts and motors. This guy know a bunch.

I am flying with an E-Tech 1200 2S1P battery pack in this E-Starter with floats.

AUW 411 grams (14.67 oz)
Stock 300C-CS, 5.33:1, with the motor retimed by moving the brushes 8mm clockwise.
10x8 propeller either stock or cut down to a 9x8.

A very good flyer.
