Extreme Flight Mxs power option

Looking for anyone with experience flying the EF MXS with any of the eflight motors? I have the Eflight 480/1020, Power 10 and the power 32. The Power 32 motor base plate is too big to fit the firewall. I don't want to buy another motor if I don't have to.

Thanks Guys

Looking at your motor specs:
  • 480/1020: max power = 275W.. This is about half to a third of the power you would want in the MXS, this motor is a non-starter.

  • Power 10: max power = 450W, prop size on 4s = 10".... This will fly the MXS ok for sports flying but you will be down on power for serious 3D. Also due to the collet type prop adapter the prop would probably stick out the front leaving a gap between cowl and spinner.

  • Power 32: (770kv?) this has plenty of power but is physically rather big and heavy. As you know you would have to modify the motor box mount and also the prop would stick way out the front of the cowl becaue the motor is much too long. It's also 60g heavier than the default Torque motor so you would probably not be able to balance the plane without adding weight to the tail.
Bottom line is that none are well suited to the MXS. The power 10 would fit and would have enough power to fly it but you would not get the best out of the plane with that motor because it's lacking power.

Did you get the plane yet? If not, you can order it with the Torque motor and Airboss ESC as a combo and save some money.

The 15 is not too bad but still far from ideal. It's too long to fit in the cowl and still a little shy on power unless you pushed it over the recommended amps.

The 25 is really too big and too heavy.

Whatever motor you go for, to fit in the cowl without a large spinner gap you need a motor that's 38mm long or less, plus uses a bolt on type prop adapeter. this rules out any eflite motor because they are too long and/or use a collet adapter.

Best motors for this plane as proven by many is the EF recommedended Torque 2814T/820 (4s) or the Motrolfly DM2820/750 (on 4s) or DM2820/950 (on 3s or 4s). I love the DM2820/750 in my EF Edge

Doesn't that motor leave a pretty big gap between the cowl and spinner?.. Also at 500W max is on the modest side for the the 48" EXP's.

For comparison the recommended Torque motor will give you about 680W on 4s and the Motrolfly 900W+

While it doesn't help at the moment, call EF and they will likely honor the combo. I believe they should be here any day but call them to make certain.

In my experience every bit as good as a Hacker. Also in the US the support you get from Ken at Subsonic is simply outstanding. If you want a special custom winding he will hand wind one for you and his after sales (and pre sale) support is just the best.

if you go to any of the EXP threads you will find lots of people running Motrolfly motors and I've yet to hear any Motrolfly owners with anything negative to say about them and I've yet to hear of a failure.

Before I start sounding like a Motrolfly salesman I have to say that the Torque is a great motor too. It probably comes down to personal preference, the DM2820/750 Motrolfly spins a 13x7 or 14x7 prop on 4s whereas the Torque is limited to a 12x6, both give ample power, it just depends on what you prefer. I slightly prefer the way the Motrolfly goes.
