The Turnigy 306G/KST115/215 is a great tail servo for a 450, and only small too. I'd say way better than a 9257.

A friend of mine has 500 FBL heli with tailwag that seems impossible to solve. Now he thought of using a separate 401 gyro for the tail and let the Kbar control the swach. Do you think that it is possible to do so?

Possible, but unlikely to solve the problem.

If the wag doesn't respond to changes in gain, it suggests a mechanical problem.

If there is no binding under load (i.e. With the heli spooled up, not just static) I might suspect the tail servo.

he might try to loosen the screws in his tailblade holders by 1/4 i if then it is less your bearings bind under pressure

Should it be easy for me to move the tail link rod while the heli is spinning (without blades of course)? If i'm having a hard time moving it by hand, wont the servo be struggling too?

It should be easy! As you move the rod either side of neutral, you should feel a progressive resistance - it should feel almost "elastic".

(if you add "Chinese weights", you can get it completely neutral, so that virtually no force is needed to move it.)

There are lots of things that can be wrong in a tail linkage to cause binding - so you need to go thru every part to find what's causing your problem.

What settings were you using with them?

4.8v, 333Hz, even tried 250Hz. Most of them claim to be able to run 6v, but the original Futaba 9257 was strictly 4.8v only.

I also had 3 of those 9257 clone $10 tail servos, and all 3 failed with dead spot in the potentiometer or just died. 20-40 flights at 5V and 250 to 333Hz. (they were paired with the Futaba GY401, I can't remember the details of how I tried different frequency rates) I still have a couple genuine Futaba S9257s from about 6 years ago, one is still on a 450 of mine, perfect running at 5.5V with a YEP ESC.

can anyone give me a good place to look for starting out? I read the first post, and I've gone through the setup but I was looking for a good spot that had everything from description of the tuning parameters to best practices and known issues. is that available in one spot?

Has anyone else had this happen?

I took out my E6 equipped with a gold Kbar to fly after a long winter.
It flew great the day I put it up.

When I checked it out the collective only moved up and down about 1 degree. I hooked it up to the computer up and everything looked OK, signal from the tx was being received The cyclic and all servos were functioning, just the collective would only move 1 degree no matter what I did or changed.

I have another Kbar I can put in.

I tried a new KBar it does the same thing. Is this a Mikado doomsday bug?

it cant be, cant be the one in my outrage 550 still works.

I've never had anything like that happen.

It sounds more likely to be a TX issue.

The only way it could relate to Mikado is if you tried to load different software/firmware.

I found the problem. The ball on the swash-plate had somehow glued itsself to the main shaft.

A little solvent and grease solved the problem. I have never seen this happen before.

all is good now.
