Cool
145mm TF8000 development - 17.5kw!!

Guys, I was speaking with Martin on another subject and he brought to my attention the latest exciting developments by JR on the TF8000. JR has been doing testing and Martin should be getting his fan this weekend and asked me to post some information here. Pretty exciting!!

Initial testing is showing upwards of over 17kW but was limited due to cooling of the YGE ESC being used. As you can see in the pics below JR has now upgraded the ESC to a Compro unit.

Of note are the spade type connectors, and the PC cable. Sounds like the software allows a lot of programming flexibility. Can't wait to see additional testing!

JR aims to fly the 17KW setup in a new Sportjet named Allegro. It's about 5% larger than the Wild Hornet.

Batteries are the next big hurdle, are they running this on 12s or higher. if on 12s then they going to be in the reign of 380A. you going to need 20,000 mAh for decent flight times. I wonder how much thrust it would produce in the 6-8 kw range.

Sean, badly I "only" get a TMM 40063, we ordered together
The fan is in development, so it will take some time till there will be a small series production....

Some numbers from the first test with out thrust tube:
12S Setup
41 Volt 310,00 A 12710 Watt 17230 gr. 169,026 N 110,55 m/sec. (efflux is calculated)
14S Setup
48 Volt 365,00 A 17520 Watt 21200 gr. 207,972 N 122,62 m/sec. (efflux is calculated)

Batterie´s must be 12S/14S 2P with ~7600mAh packs or bigger to get flight time.
The sport jet does not need much fullpower with that weight to power so it will fly for the 4-5min.

For the scale jets in the 16kg area there could be ideal version with 14-15S @250A or so. That would be perfect for that job.

I also hope there will be also a version in the 8-10kW area for the Lehner 3060 motors or others.

regards Martin

Martin, thanks for sharing some of the testing details. I was scared to translate and mess it up.

Very Impressive, I wonder how many turbine models will have big enough inlets for this thing

And now it is really time for our next battery generation..

With this Pace of EDF Development, Research and Testings...we really need now a new Generation of Batteries....

380amps...Imagine the weight alone of LIPO Batteries to fly at least a good 5 Minutes??

20000mah, 30000mah?

Plus all this extra weight....jeez...

But the Fan, looks HOT!

The BVM f-4 I'm flying with twin evf's 12's carries 2 sets of 6500 mah batts. 10lbs worth of batteries. The planes total weight is about 33lbs with 30 pounds of thrust at full static power. The bvm phantom converted to a single might be a good aircraft for this fan?

Man... so much power!
It's the packs that are holding us back.

They will come, all we can do for now is keep the weight, amps down and good throttle managment

What does the fan unit w/ motor installed weigh??

The ESC is about 1 - 1 1/2 lbs, and a 65c Thunderpower 14s 20000mah setup would come in around 17lbs. That puts the power train at ~20lbs (give or take a few depending upon the weight of the actual fan unit, connectors, etc).

The thrust numbers from those tests are showing the setup as putting out a little over 46lbs of thrust .... that leaves ~26lbs of airframe, landing gear, and electronics to play with and still be at a 1:1 ratio. The 274mph efflux isn't bad either

Cool stuff, can't wait to see one up close!

Don
