Best prop for speed on a dle 30cc/ agm 30cc gasser

Hi All I have a agm 30cc gasser witch is a clone of a dle 30cc I think. I wanted to know what props you would recommend for speed. I have it on a Hanger 9 Formula 1 Sundowner. Its the one with a 80.5 inch wingspan. Also I have installed the prop adapter on this motor since the photo was taken. I know this question has probably been asked before but I cant seem to find anything. Also a note that might matter the motor has about a gallon of fuel though it and is running great but, I'm not sure if if I can get max rpm out of the motor safely yet. I have an extra 16x14 apc but I'm not sure if it would be a good fit. Thank you in a advance for your help.

I have 2 DLE30 motors both run very well with 18x8 or 18x10 for more speed. I use Xoar props.

I always used a Xoar 18x8 prop on this motor when i was using the motor for 3d. I thought something with a smaller diameter and more pitch would give me more speed but, I could be wrong. I could use a 18 inch prop but i wouldn't want to go much bigger as ground clearance would become an issue.

I think the 16x14 is a good option. Might be a bit steep on that motor but 16x12 would work dead on great. A friend of mine has one with same combo and if I remember correctly its right around the 130mph range.

Thank you for the info i want it to be fast but also a fun flier. 130 is good enough for me. I have pylon racers if i need to be a speed freak. I will try the 16x14 first as i have it but if it doesn't work I'll buy the 16x12. Thanks again for your help. Was your friend using a 16x12 or a different prop and do you happen to remember the total weight by any chance.

Buddy is using an apc 16x12. As far as weight I have no clue but it was put together with weight in mind.

There's a lot of lore about speed. I would do the numbers.

A 12 inch bite prop of a DLE 30cc (8,500 rpms) wants to make turns for
8,500 x 1 foot x 60 minutes / 5,280 feet per mile = 96.59 mph.

You may lose 1/3 of the thrust due to air resistance, so I would guarantee that a 16 x 12 prop on the DLE 30cc would haul the plane more than about 65 mph.

One problem with the gas engines is the low rpms. It's hard to increase the bite enough to get a lot of air speed.

If you want 130 mph, you will need over a 16 bite prop. With no loss due to air resistance, this will get you 128 mph. But with air resistance, you will need close to a 20 bite prop to make 106 mph.

Try a 16 bite prop, and time the plane over a fixed distance to get speed. Then, go from there.

Airspeed can be much higher than static pitch speed might indicate. There is a guy who clocked his Revolver 90 w/ DLE 55 and 24x10 at 100+MPH while static pitch speed indicated ~70MPH. Onboard telemetry indicated RPM went from ~6850 static to 11300 in the air.

I agree with gkamysc.

I have a "real world" experience where a propeller had a theoretical pitch speed of 121mph, but, in the air, the actual speed was 145mph. This was observed at the same engine rpm.

Airframe drag has a lot to do with how fast a plane will fly, on a given pitch and rpm.

Sorry for the late reply I did fly the plane and I have to say it it so smooth that it a joy to fly. I flew it on a apc 16x14 and it did well I think it was around 115 or so. I will try it on a 16x12 and a 18x 10 or 12 soon.
