Value Hobby Quadcopters?

I recently bought the mqx and I've decided I am going to build a bigger quad. I do want to eventually mount a camera.

I've got a control board and power distribution board coming from hobbyking:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=24723

I found this:
http://www.valuehobby.com/multicopte...unt-combo.html

Has anyone had any experience with this frame? I'm trying to decide which motors for it.
Their G450:
http://www.valuehobby.com/power-syst...or-kv1200.html
or
Their G400:
http://www.valuehobby.com/power-syst...ess-motor.html

I've got 4 x 30 amp ESCs and a bunch of servo lead extensions in the parts bin that should work. I should add that I'm new to quads, but not new to RC. I'm pretty experienced with scratchbuilding planes, and building helis from kits so the physical building part doesn't worry me at all. The board looks easy enough to configure via the LCD?

Any advice on the board or the frame/motors would be appreciated!

Which of these two motors would be better for a 550 sized quad:

or

Both are 1200kv

Niether you need 900kv -> 1100kv lower would be best. Maybe some 20-22l with 10x4.7 or a 1100kv motor with 9in props.

1200kv is fine with an 8x4.5 prop.

http://www.valuehobby.com/power-syst...ess-motor.html looks like a clone of the NTM Prop drives and is a motor I plan on trying for myself.

what i meant wsa that would be a higher kv which means a smaller prop and this is a 550mm quad which means he has 225mm/10in or so arms. i was thinking the props are too small?

I can only say from experience that 8x4.5 is not to small for 550mm. I currently run 1200kv on 8" props and it propels a 530mm quad at 1300g without problem. I am not saying this is the best combo, however it is a viable one.

I'm not opposed to ordering the motors from another site. Any suggestions for motors availabe online for around $20-$25 each?

I think it is better in general to run lower Kv motors with larger props, at least its more efficient. Then you have the option of using higher voltage lipo's if you want. For example this motor http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...50kv_140w.html at 4S would be an option, probably with a 10 inch prop. I use 9 x 5 props on my 920Kv DJI motors at 4S and it is a perfect combo. And they are only 12 amp motors.

Based on some motor recommendations on this thread:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1662630
I went with this motor:
http://www.valuehobby.com/power-syst...30-1100kv.html
The frames are similar sizes and the motors are similar. I ordered some 10x4.5 props for it. When I get them I'll put them on a watt meter and make sure I'm within spec - the dealer lists the motors with 11x5.5 props so I doubt I'll have any over-amping issues. If anything, I'll be running them well under their max and may end up upgrading to larger props down the road.

I'll ask the question again since nobody seemed to respond last time. What do you all think about this controller board:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=24723
Does anyone have any experience with the board? I'm not afraid of messing with programming a more complex board, but this one looked to be as "plug and play" as you can get, so for my first quad I figured it might be worth a shot.

That is a fairly large motor and is probably better suited running a 9 inch prop. I am curious why you chose this motor. It is not mentioned in the thread you listed and is widely different from all of the other recommendations in this thread.

Unless you are carrying large payloads, a 76g 300watt motor seems over kill to me, even on a 550mm frame. You do realize that value hobby has the 28mm 400 size 50g motors in a 850kv rating that may work better with the props you ordered.

Thanks for the feedback. I saw in the other thread they mentioned NTM3530 1100KV - the 480 I ended up ordering looked similar. I saw the 400 sized motor on their site and though that 850kv would be too slow and the 1200kv would be too fast. The threads I've read all seemed to say you'd want motors in the 950-1100kv range. There's just so much info here on RCgroups it's hard to filter the useful info from the useless stuff.
Once they come in and I get it built I'll report back and let you all know if it's overkill. Worst case I guess I order some smaller motors and use those in the future for a bigger frame.
