Question
3dhs 70" AJ Slick setup help

hey there guys, i recently got a 3dhs slick and have been working on setting it up. im not a hardcore 3d guy just general stunts and some mild 3d. but i need to figure out what servos to use,rx,and ubec to power the rx and all. my motor is a firepower 1.60 running 8s on a 20x8 prop with a 100 amp opto esc.

for servos i have been looking at tactic tts65s and hitec hs-805mg.
any suggestions would be great. i want something that will be good for most general flying but i dont really wanna spend more then $200(a little over is fine)

for rx i am using a dx6i and soon to be dx6.

for ubec and all i am not sure. havent really used them but in gliders with 2 servos, so any tips and advice would be very very helpful with it all.

hoping to get it done by joe nall eweek. so let me know what you guys all think. thanks for the help.

Take a look in the 71" Slick tread (all 30,000 posts ). The 70 and 71 are almost identical airframes. You will find there just about every combination of motor, esc and servos tried, and what work best.

Or take a look at the 3DHobbyShop site for their recommendations for the 71" Slick.

I would think you might be disappointed in those hs-805's. Non digital and kind of slow.
The XQ-4013, 16 or 20's will smoke the 805s. About $40 ish each. I think you can get a discount on 5 servos. from RedwingRC
Buy from them if you want killer support.

Just as an FYI,

In my 70" Slick
6S 5000's
Motrofly 4325-380 motor
Hacker X-80 Opto Pro 3D ESC
4 Align DS610 servos

In my 71" Slick (Setup for IMAC)
8S (2 x 4S) 4000's
Motrolfly 4325-280
ICE 100, BEC Pro
Hitec HS-7954SH Digital Servos

Very happy with both.

Ok. So that just plugs into a spare port and that is all you need?

My XQ 4013 are sick as hell! I am running them on my 30CC MXS-R from Redwing RC. I think they are worth it!

Only down fall I found is that they are loud at humming, but when the hell are you going to hear it when your motor is running or flying.

Speed awesome and centering perfect.

Cheers

Another option is to run the RX/servos directly off of a 2S Lipo (8.4V)......but you will need HV servos that can operate at that voltage.

Yeah, I have looked at that. But looking at a PowerBook but not sure if that is what I want. Although the extra battery in case would be good.

Go to the XQ-4113, 16 or 20 for high voltage. Not much more cost..

I'm running two bec pro set at 8.5v for my two 30cc planes. I disconnect/remove the red wire from the Esc so only the signal and ground are seen by the rx and Esc. The internal bec is taken out of the equation and not nessasary. Works great for me Just make sure your rx can handle the higher voltage.
