Balancing Question
Hi Guys
Just getting my head around the new balancer and so far so good ![]() It took me a while before it 'clicked' that the initial steps were about working out where the heavy side of the rotor was (consistently) at a set amount of rpm. I can be abit technologically challenged at times!! However I was just wonder if in the initial stages of the balance; are people repeatedly taking the rotor off to add or move weight (poster putty) on the inside of the rotor, or just sticking it to the outside of the rotor (and then transferring it to the inside of the rotor once the fan appears balanced). Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers Dave |

Hi Don, I've read through the pages to find what (weights) is being used to properly balance the fan. It is stated Poster putty is used. Is it the final weight left on the rotor or is it temporary to put some other type of weight at the end?
Thanks for clearing that up for me, Cheers, V. |

The poster putty is used on the outside of the fan hub initially because it is easy to add or subtract weight. Once you get the unit balanced you can transfer the weight to the inside of the hub. Then repeat the balance to see if moving the weight inward has made any changes to the balance. The weight on the inside of the hub can be poster putty, adhesive tape, cyano and kicker etc etc. It is just easier to transfer the mass of poster putty from the outside to the inside without having to weigh anything. The main thing is you will know exactly where to add the weight Alternatively You can remove material from the fan on the opposite side to the poster putty you put on during balancing. Then remove the poster putty and retest However this is more destructive and weakens the structure. |

Having read this thread it is fantastic that someone has produced this balancer and made it available to us all for such a great price
![]() ![]() You have to be commended Bob. I just have to convince the powers that be that it is essential I have one, as it would free me up to use all sorts of fans without having to pay for balancing and buying a motor every time, I can mix and match. ![]() So Bob when are we getting free postage again?????? |
