MK II Mast

Thought I would show a picture of the 2 masts side by side. Just so you can see the differences between the 2. Still a long way to go to finish the second mast but it's getting done.

The detail is what grips me and keeps me looking. It's eye candy.

I've been silently watching cause I didn't have a good picture of where you were going.Sometimes it's difficult to describe to an audience, particularly the likes of me.Your picture clears it all up." I have to say you went a long way to get it done but it is worth the effort. It llooks great. Very nice."

Foo, the mast on the left is not correct in a number of ways. The more I looked at the photos the more I discovered. The photos show a rod going out of the top of the small box and up into the top of the mast. It is not correct as you see it on the left. It goes up in front of the cross brace, not behind it, and it has a dog leg type of bend in it. It then enters the mast top towards the rear of the cap. I could not say for sure what this rod does but I am going to add it and I hope it will better match the pictures.

Ah, the joys of photo-documentation.... There's always another itsy bitsy part, just at the edge of resolution or just out of the plane of focus!!

(Then there is the joy of the wartime censor who may or may not have ordered the photo 'retouched.')

No problem, the "G man" will simply find the censors notes and make it right.
Wadaya trying to do craig? He nearly ended up in the funny farm on the first mast.
Carry on Grav, and don't forget to take your PROZAK.

PT-595 through PT-624 has the masthead different than any pictures I have found. ELCO drawing E-2468 shows the masthead Nav light bracket. I wouldn't have known this but I'm modeling PT-615 and found this difference after looking through all the ELCO drawings.

As for the mast crossmembers, I don't know that they were full width with lightning holes. Unfortunately, the ELCO mast drawing doesn't exist (no image) on the microfilm.

I did find a Higgins mast drawing for the SO-3 radar unit and took liberties to make the ELCO mast similarly. The ELCO data I can find supports my assumtions. However, If you have data showing differently, I'm interested. Hope this helps.

Keep up the good work!
